two good stories
while on my recent AC trip, heard a couple of stories you might enjoy. both stories came from regulars and one was taped, so i trust the validity. first, one couple talked about a friend of theirs who had won a car in a casino drawing. must have been a nice car because the cash offering was $35k. he took the the cash. by the time time he left the casino, he had lost it all. do not know if he had at least had the taxes withheld. ouch! other story and i heard this directly from the victim. three weeks ago, this 53 single male makes one of his regular trips to AC, he goes a lot. when he gets to the casino (i forgot to ask which one, but sure it was a CET) he goes to the bar. he is a very friendly guy and starts up a conversation with someone. soon, a couple of good looking gals come by and ask if he wants to buy them a drink. of course, he says. you know what is coming. while one has her arm around him, the other empties his front pocket and the $3k he brought with him. by the time he notices, they had left to go to the bathroom, really they escaped. he notifies security, they find it on tape. they banned the girl who distracted him, have not found the thief yet.

Wow.......gotta feel bad for the guy who had his front pocket picked.....still, I gotta ask, "WHY o WHY did he have 3 grand just sitting in his front shirt pocket???" He must have recently hit something big I guess......either way, to this day, if someone tries to pick my pocket, no matter what distraction technique is used, I always detect my pocket being picked.....I attribute this to my early teen years when i was actually taught by one of my uncles how to spot and detect pickpockets or people who try to distract you, and how to counter them. Of course, being in the chronically SEATED position helps in ways you might not grasp until you actually experience it yourself. Thanks for sharing notes...... do you know which casino the 35K was won and lost at? What games was responsible for siphoning the 35 K from the big winner? My guess would be blackjack......the guy just hit a really bad run of cards?!?!

the guy who got robbed had just gotten to the casino, normally puts his money in the safe, but stopped at the bar first. the money was in his front PANT pocket, that is where i keep my money. these gals were good. i do not know any other details about the guy who lost the $35k.

Depressing tales! Not even any cautionary value, as I will never have that kind of cash on me.

Sad stories but I don't feel bad for any of the participants. I too; missed the word shirt in your first post and I also keep my cash in my front pants pocket.

the point was not to feel sorry for either one, especially the guy who lost the $35k. the other was more of a cautionary tale. there are crooks out there and some are very good at what they do.

Good stories Notes. If it was me, I might have lost 1k of the 35k tops, but who knows on subesquent trips. As to the girls, the fact that they wanted drinks bought for them would have clued me in. I guess I am a little streetwise in that area, having been around the block a few times. In fact, the gals in my recent story in the little black dresses ( not being gamblers ) actually wanted to pay for the cappuccinos I ordered for all 5 of them. Of course I said no and just tipped the waitress well. I guess if they had been pros though, they might have got me too except for the fact that all of my remaining money was in the machine and everything else on me was quite secure. I guess Penn and Teller could have got me though if they wanted to.

Its simple why I don't feel sorry for the guy who lost the 35k; he had no control. He does have a write off now though for the fed but state is another matter. I'm with Olds, I would have lost up to a certain point and if that happened I would then get out of Dodge, quickly. Even if he lost 7,500 he would have still had plenty left over. As for the man who had his pocket picked, I don't care how much attention a strange female (or two) is paying to me as I would be paying more attention to my money. It's been about 36 years since I got fast talked while working at a gas station and I haven't been duped since.

i talked to the theft victim for over an hour, we even sat next to one another on the plane. he was plenty pissed, but more angry at himself, because he always puts his money in the safe. he is a stocky, but powerful guy. he said the worst thing is he will be a lot less trusting of folks going forward. again, the tale is more of a caution to all of us. he never felt a thing. somebody bumps up against you, a crowded elevator, you never know. he told me a story about going to a 'penn/tellar' type show. the star shook the hand of a person in the audience and walked away with his watch. the guy never knew it.
