You're Screwing Up the Machines!

Post by FloridaPhil »

The Tampa Hard Rock had a promotion yesterday where they were giving
away $555 in free play every five minutes. I decided to drive over and see if they would call my name. To kill time, I decided to play flat
single quarter DDB.  I enjoy DDB, but at 8/5 the only way I can stand
it is to play just for fun.  Anyway, I played even for hours.  The
people next to me were banging away at max coins and draining their wallets
as usual.  I play faster than most, so the quads seem to come more often
for me.  One time I hit 4 aces for $40 and one of the ladies told me I
was screwing up the machines playing single coin.  I told her our
machines were not connected and that there was no way they could
communicate.  She insisted than a single coin player in her row
negatively affected every player in that row.  I'm sure she lost a bunch
of money and watching me hit quad after quad ticked her off.  Funny how
players get these ideas in their heads.   By the way, they never called
my name...surprise!

That's a funny story Phil. We have a drawing going on at Soaring Eagle here in MI. From 10a to 10p $500 free play to 4 people every half hour Mondays and Saturdays. I had to work but my wife got there at 10:30am yesterday played all day hoping to hear her name. She got called at 8:30 pm. Ran the 500 off on jacks and cashed out $430. She was down a few 100 playing all day but came home ahead a small amount. I was the lucky one last month and got called 2 times on two  of the 4 Mondays. Heading out there tomorrow and hoping for some more luck!
Played this last week and did hit 4 deuces on max bet so was very excited!
Congratulations!  Playing Cheap Strategy takes a lot of patience, but sooner or later you get your reward.   I'll bet you didn't have to mortgage your house to win it either?  I find it harder and harder to play flat max coins these days.  Cheap Strategy is very addictive. Each time I try to play flat max coins, I watch my money fly away like the wind and I go back to playing Cheap.  There is a place for traditional play, but not in the world that I play in.   Anyone who thinks this strategy is bogus, doesn't understand it fully or goes into it with predetermined negative assumptions.  Positive flat strategy profits are predicated on comps and/or playing only big progressives.   If that's the world you're in...Great.  For the majority of players, it doesn't add up that way.

You could write a book about what people say or think on why they are losing and who is causing it to happen. That is the nature of gambling. I quit playing Black Jack 20 years ago because I got tired of other players saying I took " their " card. What a joke. I know one thing though. Flat betting is definitely a losing proposition long term in any negative expectation game. That is unless of course you had your Lucky Charms for breakfast or a Leprechaun riding on your shoulder.
The wife and I are heading up today for hopefully an overnight. I am going to try and force myself to play the Phil method with a little of my Martingale clone thrown in. I just seem to need the excitement of a jackpot opportunity with more than 1 coin in.
This is the game plan.....As usual play just a quarter until a hit of 4 or more. I am not sure yet if I will stick to Deuces Wild or throw in some 9/6 JOB. I have access to good paytables at Mohegan for both games. I had thought about Joker Kings too, but if that joker just isn't showing up most of the time, you are finished early on that game.
Here is where the clone part comes in. Remember at Mohegan, I can bet anywhere from 1 to 25 units....On the hit of 4 or more, I will bet 2 for one hand. Not sure yet if I will chance 2 tries before returning to single coin. If I get a loser which is likely at least for every 4 or 5 tries, on another hit of 4 or more, I will try bet 3 for a hand or two. If it is a loser, I will try bet 4 the next time I hit 4 or more on single coin and so forth. Hopefully, I won't have to bet all the way up to bet 25 before something good hits. What this does though, is preserve my capital much better than my usual Martingale Clone This will also give you the thrill of a pot shot as Phil would say and maybe a nice hit with multiple coins in. I will check back in on the results.

As my bankroll has grown, I switched over to dollar Cheap play about 6 months ago.  It takes more capital to fund an entire day's play, but I seem to be doing better.  It eliminates waiting to make the switch to dollar play and the dollar odds are so much better in our area.   A dollar short coin quad deuce is $200 and even a royal flush (had two recently) is $250.  I hit a $1,000 quad deuce two months ago in Biloxi which I still have.  If you have a daily bankroll of at least $500, I think you can successfully skip quarters and move right to dollars.  I'm continuing to play the $5 machines sparingly.  Yesterday I tried $60 in the high limit room on my way out and walked out with an extra $300 in my pocket due to a single coin wild royal and a max coin straight flush.  It's all good.

CS requires a lot of discipline which I have yet to attain. First, I should write down the time I sit down. Then allot a tight window of two minutes of max play at the start of the next hour. That would be my version anyway. It was nice to at least hit a three coin quad yesterday. A one or two would have been so frustrating. I want to see at least a three wager when that finally occurs!

I think the "cow" is a little harsh, but I'd go along with the ignorant description.

Discipline had always been my problem. Not hitting Royals in over a million hands twice in the last 2 years certainly doesn't help. Luckily, hitting deuces quads and wild royals right on schedule. I am trying to come up with a mandatory quit playing number, but I think I am going to settle on twenty percent of the day's bankroll or a hundred bucks on a budget of 500. Thinking back over the last year or so, I would be even or better if I had done that. To overcome the desire to keep playing, there are a couple of things I could do. Find a penny cartoon game of some sort and just play a penny. Go over to one of the spin poker machines and just play the center line for two or 3 cents depending on the machine. Also take some long walks around the casino just to get a feel for what is happening. What I don't want to do though is hit the lounge just to eat and drink out of boredom. Trying to keep healthy at my age. So important for all of us. Last year after one of my few jackpots, I did find something else to do since I wasn't ready to hit the road home yet. My car was nice and clean, but longing for a little more detail so I waxed the entire car in the garage. I know it appreciated it because I got 41 mpg on the way home. Unfortunately, she is in the shop now. Running great at 311k miles, but the stupid service engine soon light won't come on when you turn the key on. Unfortunately it is not the bulb. To get it through emissions, the light has to work. There are no codes either showing something is wrong. Dash is already torn apart by the mechanic. Next step is the wires to the computer and then to check the computer itself. Bummer because the Saturn has never failed emissions. This repair even if the problem can be found isn't going to be a cheap repair. I know...most will say time for a new car, but when you have a car you really like that costs very little in gas to run, still looks like new, and is fun to drive (stick shift ), it is a tough call. In all of those miles, the car has never stuck me at the casino. Not many cars with miles like that can say the same.
