Whoops!!!!

Post by pjmaui »

I have read a few stories about people somehow playing a different game than they thought they were and realizing it too late being a costly error. I could never understand how something like that could happen, but now I have proof. I will call it a senior moment, and the funny thing is we were at the casino celebrating my 53RD birthday. It was at Wildfire in Henderson last Sunday. I always play DDB, it was my first visit to Wildfire. 10-15 minutes in caught my first quad, aces w/kicker. Expecting a 500.00 pay was stumped when only paid 200.00. OH NO! I was playing DB. This was a first for me.I was happy, but disappointed at the same time. Switched to DDB and got a little redemption. I was dealt three aces, caught the fourth w/ no kicker. Came out ahead 345.00 for the day so all in all it was good, however, lesson learned.
Went to Green Valley Ranch last night. After a pretty long cold spell there caught royal # 169. Hopefully the drought is over!

Congrats pj. Please don't say that at 53 you were having a senior moment because I'll be there,53, in March.

Continue to end the draught...

I'm glad it worked out in a way for you. Now mine wasn't senior moment and it cost me big bucks, I thought it was my fault at first but later learned it wasn't so much. I only play DDB and TDB, I had been playing for a couple of hours and I move around a lot when I play from machine to machine. I hadn't hit any big hands a small quad now and then to keep me going. I just moved to a different machine and caught quad aces w/kicker, $2K jackpot, turns out I was playing JOB so I had only hit for $125. I knew I had clicked on DDB but somehow the game had switched, I called for a slot tech and they decided it was my fault. I cashed out and left the casino with plans to never return to that casino but I kept wondering how it could have happened. I went back and found that out of the roughly 80 vp machines that offered $1 DDB 3 of the machines would actually switch games, this event only occured on those three games. I called for a slot tech and this time the floor manager came along. They were aware of my previous complaint and were shocked when I showed them what was happening, they seen it happen with their own eyes, couldn't make it happen on any of the other machines, only those three with the old style Game King fronts. They promised to review the event and I was told they would more than likely give me $2K in free play, which was fine by me. After 2 weeks I finally got an answer, no free play or anything because they said I should have noticed that the game was not on DDB. Funny thing was when I went back those three machines were gone from the entire casino.
I knew I had clicked on DDB but somehow the game had switched, I called for a slot tech and they decided it was my fault.
I have witnessed this quite a few times.  For some reason you occasionally find a machine that will switch games when you exit to change denominations and go back in.  I've never had a bad outcome from it, but it is a problem.  This happened to my wife in Bilxoi once when she thought she was playing Jacks and was really playing DDB.  He hit quad 4s with a kicker and couldn't understand why the bell kept going off.  Sometimes you just get lucky...

Happened to me in April at Sam's Town LV; I was distracted long enough by a chatty drunk guy to let the game change from DB to Bonus, I then proceed to hit quad 4s. Bah.

I have never had a machine change games when I still had credits. When the machine goes to zero credits, if can go into the "default" mode after so many seconds (this is a parameter set by the casino.)It can change games (as the posts here mention) or denominations --- usually lower. If you were playing $1 DDB and the game shifts to 25c DDB, you'll be disappointed if you happen to hit a jackpot before you notice. The casinos almost never increase the denomination during these default mode shifts. Somebody playing nickels is never going to be shifted to dollars --- simply because they would complain so loudly that their money was eaten so fast that the casinos would likely reimburse them and make sure that never happened again.Changing games to the default mode makes sense for the casino. There is one game on the box that they make the most money on and if players aren't going to pay much attention to what they play, that's the one the casino wants them to play.If you want to prevent this "senior moment", make it a habit to "reload" the machine when you still have five credits left. Or make sure you pay attention when you're just starting out or when the credit meter went to zero since you played your last hand.

It happened to me with credits in the machine. But I let it idle for awhile. Next time I get back to Sam's town, I'll try to do an experiment. I guess it's possible I was playing the wrong game all along, but I'm doubting it.

In my case it had nothing to do with having 0 credits, there were only 3 machines in the entire casino that would repeat the same exact "senior moment".

A player's current game seems to time out pretty fast in just about any casino. Maybe the lag time between hands was deemed excessive?
