I don't want to get too contentious here, but doesn't that suggest something about the different playing strategies?
Absolutely.  It's like the difference between Jacks or Better and DDB.  It all depends if you are looking for a nice ride or a roller coaster.  My wife prefers conservative games and limits her loses to her own comfort level.  The best she is going to do on any one hand is hit a quad deuce for $250 or a rare royal for $1,000.   I like more excitement, so I adjust my strategy to make that happen.  If I get lucky, I can catch up or go ahead of her in one hand.  I am aware that "getting lucky" is not a strategy that anyone could base a career on, but it works for my purposes. If I'm going to play video poker for money, I want a chance of a $1,000 win more often than once in 40,000 hands.  There are ways to do this at decent odds without playing max coin dollars all the time. My wife enjoys playing video poker, but the amount of the jackpot is not that important to her.   That's what recreational play is all about.  To each his own.
