FloridaPhil about Biloxi

Post by alpax »

Note: I am not trying to make a mockery of the Reno post, but this is something that might be of interest to those that play in Biloxi.

It has been reported earlier this week that the IP in Biloxi now has 9/6 Jacks or Better in 25c, 50c, $1 denominations. There is also a sign that says "Best VP in Biloxi" to affirm it.

Bad part: It requires $30 coin in per point, rather than $5 coin in for 3 points. So it is 18 times slower to accrue points.

Good part: It is at a non-smoking area of the casino

It is run by the Boyd Corporation which is known to serve good VP games.

Despite this, the quarter progressive Airport Deuces might be the better play for those looking for comps and improved status.

The IP has a few of the only decent low denomination VP games left in Biloxi. The problem is the hotel and casino are old, the machines are in bad repair and there are only a handful of good machines.  You can find quarter 9/6 jacks at the Island View casino in Gulfport if you want to take a short drive. Biloxi at one time was a great place to play.  After Katrina, the bean counters moved in and it went down fast.  Since Margaritaville closed it's even worse (if that's possible).  We were a regular at the Beau Rivage for years making at least one 3-4 day trip each quarter.   The area itself is beautiful, but the odds are so bad there is no way you are going to leave with money left in your pocket.  We have friends that only play slots and they tell us the slots are even worse.  The Beau Rivage is cancelling their free flights next year, so I suspect you will be able to fire a canon in the casino without hitting anyone.  Take my advice, save your money and play where you have a chance.  If you just want to visit the Gulf Coast,  I suggest playing single coin quarters the whole time so you don't get hurt too badly.  Note: If you are going to play for a few hours or even a day, odds don't mean much.  If you're like us and play every day all day for days on end, they make a huge difference.

Why even bother giving points if it's that slow? Fortunately Sam's Town Tunica still had 9/6 Jacks, even at the bar!   And still earns normal points, which is currently 5 points per $3 coin-in (0.166%).

If you get offers at IP, I probably stick with the deuces, otherwise they'll likely disappear.

In Vegas, Boyd points are worth $1/1000 points. If that's the same formula, $5 to earn 3 points means 0.06%. The Deuces game referred to is worth 98.91%. Even with zero slot club benefits, the JoB game is worth almost 0.6% more. For a quarter player play $1000 coin-in per hour, that's $6 per hour difference. For a dollar player, that's $24 an hour. Plus it's a LOT easier to play JoB perfectly than any version of deuces wild perfectly. You think you can get 0.6% more in comps and mailers playing the deuces game? Perhaps so, I do not have recent experience in that casino, but I rather doubt it. do not buy into the nonsense that if you're only playing a few hours a day pay schedules don't matter. While it can be said if you only play a few hours in a lifetime, pay schedules don't matter, but $10,000 of coin-in is $10,000 of coin-in, whether it took you a half hour on a $5 machine or quite a bit longer on a quarter machine. Pay schedules DO matter.
Of course pay schedules matter.  My point in adding this statement was to emphasize the fact that on a day to day basis you can win with bad odds and lose with 100% odds.  Over time games with bad odds cost more to play and the worse the odds the more they cost.  For the majority of us, if we could only play positive games we could never play.  I understand is there is a long term cost to playing bad games.  I'm playing for recreation and I'm the one who decides if I'm getting my money's worth.

Overall a good insightful post from Mr. Dancer, every player has to account for somethings if it means to play on a lower paytable.

The reason I mentioned about playing airport deuces (even better with progressives) was for the value of moving up in tier on B Connected.

I do value the Sapphire tier benefits much more than the standard Ruby tier, at least in Vegas properties it is $1 cashback for $500 coin in rather than $1 per $1000. For IP in Biloxi, Sapphire earns points at 25% faster rate than Ruby, not as good but still something. It is even better to get into Emerald tier but that is beyond my reach.

For the B-Connected network, it is obviously better to move up in status at Vegas, where $1 coin in is 1 point in every game (except the Full Pay Deuces Wild and 10/6 DDB and 10/7 DB). I am not sure if it is 25,000 tier points for Sapphire and 250,000 tier points for Emerald nation wide. Those details are not provided online, but for Vegas that is the case.

I'm not familiar with how tier points work out west. Here, a point is worth 1 casino dollar that can be spent. On vp, you also need about 500 coin in for one point. Is the 1 point earned for 500 in out there worth a dollar you can spend on food, gas, etc. Just curious. At Mohegan Sun, the 500 for 1 points are separate from tier or status points. The vp machines I play only pay the tier or status points.

Nice rundown, Alpax. Boyd has definitely been a much needed booster shot in the wallet in my recent AC experience. I'm curious to hear more about players' satisfaction levels with Boyd in their neck of the woods.
Good grief. That would be an accurate description of Showboat AC in its final year.
I hope it doesn't come to that.  The Biloxi area is beautiful and the people are very nice.  Unfortunately, if they don't start offering players a better value for their money, they will go the way of AC.   Free rooms, drinks and food are worthless if the casino cleans out your wallet each and every time you play.  If Nevada casinos can make money offering decent odds, Biloxi can too.
