Jacks or Better = Boring, safe, low risk and low return

Double Double Bonus = Fun, volatile, higher risk and higher reward.

Triple Double Bonus = Exciting, highly volatile, highest risk and highest return.

try to find Jacks or better with a progressive meter.....when it gets high, say over 1200 bucks for the royal, jump in....then its not quite as boring or pointless (assuming also that you are not playing some abhorrently bad paytable like 6 or 7/5!)Someone said Bonus Poker earlier......I often find Bonus poker (8/5 for a 99+% return) played at 50 cents is a good alternative to playing DDB at 25 cents.    You can obviously figure out the reasons for doing that, not the least of which you earn slightly more comps too playing 8/5 BP at 50 cents instead of 9/6 DDB at 25 cents (or 9/5, or even 8/5!!!!! as many of the AC paytables now have been slashed to.....and which I just noticed YOUR paytable at the Tampa Hard Rock is set at.....yuck)I'd advise you not to play that particualr DDB game too much if it is going to stay at 8/5......that's going to eat your money big time in the future.Best wishes whatever you choose to play and WELCOME to this forum....and well done using the word "DOOZY" in a post title.

Using the word "return" is really, really bad here. Because typically in VP lingo, "highest return" typically represents the game variant where "the least amount of money is expected to be lost (or most amount won)" in a particular casino.

Triple Double Bonus is RARELY the highest return game in the dozens casinos I have examined. Most casinos I've visited do NOT have 9/7 Triple Double Bonus (99.58%). And a casino without 9/7 TDB almost guarantees it is NOT the "highest returning" game since 9/6 TDB is only 98.15%. More casinos offer 9/6 Jacks (99.54%) instead, as their "highest returning" game. Or even some casinos games better than both of these games, including 10/6 Double Double Bonus (100.07%).

You're right about my use of return Vman and I was going to edit it but I didn't want to get criticized for editing my post.

Please allow me to change the word return to reward.

No worries; I figured it wasn't intentional. I just didn't want "agentplatypus" taking it the wrong way. I'm not a fan of this site immediately pointing out edit stamps either. I tend to fix typos a lot right after I hit "send". The other sites I post at frequently have a bit of a leeway before throwing up an edit stamp.

I am still new to the varying games with video poker. Ive always just played Jacks or better. What are some safer versions and why.  I'm not sure if it's considered a breach of forum etiquette to mention books you have written. If so, I apologize. But my "Video Poker for the Intelligent Beginner" covers just this sort of thing. About 65 games are individually listed, sorted by volatility and game type, and in each one it tells you what makes that particular game different from every other game on the list.It also provides pay schedules and returns for each game. Such as in DDB, 10/6 returns 100.06%; 9/6 returns 98.98%; 95 returns 97.87%. The 8/5 versions (which returns 96.89%, btw) isn't listed in the book as it is too tight for intelligent players to play.Which is the "best" game to play often has a personal preference parameter built --- witness the person who didn't like Jacks or Better because it was too boring. That's fine, but you probably should limit your decision to the two or three games with the highest return. Giving up a half percent because you prefer one game over another is possibly a reasonable price to pay. (I wouldn't, but my goals are to maximize money --- period --- and personal preference doesn't really have a very big vote for me in video poker). You may well have different priorities Giving up a lot more that a half percent to play your preferred game should really be undertaken with great caution --- if preserving your bankroll has any priority at all. Many players DO NOT KNOW the return of the game they are playing, even though the information is readily available. Others DO NOT CARE the return of the game. That's an expensive way to play the game (and those players surely consider me to be far too anal in my approach). Whether you're a pro or a recreational player, video poker is applied math.
