Shoulder tendon pain from VP!!
Anyone with a solution to this? Finally narrowed my tendon pain to the repetitive motion of hitting the "deal" button on my favorite console VP machine.
Had a steroid shot to quiet it down -- not knowing at that point that my VP play was the culprit. The shot quelled the pain for a week, but I spent several hrs playing at the end of that week and finally made the connection. Am now back where I started and it is misery.
Any experience/ergonomics to share?

You could try holding the cards by toughing the glass screen instead of the buttons. Hit the deal button on the glass too. This creates its own set of problems though because you have to usually lean forward to reach the glass. The constant pounding of the buttons messes up the digits too. Sometimes I stand at the machine instead of sitting when I am playing. The problem is doing anything too long without a break causes all kinds of problems.

I occasionally see a standing player near or even next to me. It's such an unnerving experience. Break up play with an hour of craps. It gets the blood circulating and incurs minimal risk with vanilla wagering.

Change your seated position from time to time so that you are at different angles to the deal button. Change the angle of your arm and wrist also. Touch the button with your entire hand instead of one finger from time to time. Place your elbows at right angles to your body and reach inward to hit the deal button from time to time. Although some of these positions will seem strange at first, over time you will become accustomed to them. I have offered this same advice to others who are engaged in repetitive motions, such as a supermarket cashier and a court stenographer. It is not breaking away from the position for a rest as much as it is changing the position that is required. There are literally thousands of angles at which your joints, tendons and muscles coordinate to accomplish tasks, and you must find those angles which offer you the most comfort and the least pain. Once you find the best ones, rotate them frequently.

This is a problem for most of us. I usually play the uprights at Borgata because they are in the non smoking section, but think I'll try the slant tops at the B Bar next time if there aren't that many smokers. Much easier on the back.

The most prized turf in the entire casino, perhaps in all of AC. Turf battles on a daily basis. I recently wrested a machine from the claws of a woman who pounced on two that suddenly emptied, one for her absent husband. She screamed that she waited an hour. I inserted my card anyway. That's just the most recent story. In my experience, this area attracts the most obnoxious boors imaginable. It's simply not a fun environment for solo players who lack a buffer. An end machine would be the ideal if fortune allows. Great staff, maniacal patrons.

I can usually get a machine with no problem at around 1 PM on a Friday. By the time I leave at 5, the bar is usually packed with the great unwashed. When it gets uncomfortable, I just get up and leave and go to the uprights and deal with pain of another sort.

The great unwashed dominate my hours. No wonder your experience is vastly different. What a turn off.

I count myself lucky with patron interactions for the most part up at Mohegan Sun. Usually no problems at all and I can count them all on one hand in the last twenty years. The most memorable was one nutball woman trying to save an entire bank of machines for herself and husband who wasn't even in the casino yet. Like FAA posted on his post, I put my card in anyway on an end machine. She proceeded to yank it out and throw it down on the floor. I really had to hold myself back on that one and called security. She tried to kick one of them and they whisked her away promptly. Never saw her again. She had a really thick New York accent not that that matters much as well as piles of thick makeup and a foul mouth to boot.

I personally have seen more boorish behavior at the boardwalk casinos. Usually do not have any issues at any of the marina properties. Just that as the weekend crowd filters in to the Borgata on Friday afternoon, the smoke levels in the B Bar increase, the noise levels increase and the civility levels drop and you just become uncomfortable. Guess I'm getting old.
