Scarlet Pearl Report

Post by Mr.Dawes »

I spent the day at The Scarlet Pearl casino which just opened on the Gulf Coast in Biloxi (technically it is in D'Iberville). I was hoping for a better option for VP in the area and for some players it may be a good option. There were a lot of video poker options that I had never seen in casinos. They have Hot Roll, Barnyard, MultiStrike, Wheel Poker, Free Play Frenzy, Peek and Play, Hyper Bonus, Fast Fours, Quick Quads, Ultimate X, Super Times Pay, Deuces Double Double Bonus, and Straight Flush Deluxe as well as all the usual games. All of the machines are very nice as you would expect new machines to be. Padded arm rest, large screens and the most comfortable seats I have ever found in a casino. They were very well padded with nice backs. They all had adjustable heights, rotating seats and they were not bolted to the floors so you could move them where you wanted.Slot points are 1 point per $1 coin in on slots and 1 point per $3 coin in on Video Poker. By my math comp dollars accumulate at about 0.2. Free buffets were available with only 250 slots points ($750 coin in VP). The buffet food was good but it is a small buffet without many options. As for paytables, .25 and .50 denominations are not that impressive. The dollar player however has some good options. Below is a table of payouts for the games that I know. Keep in mind there are so many games that are completely new to me so I have no idea if they are good plays or not..25 and .50 denominationJoB 8/5 = 97.3%DB  9/6 = 98.1%DDB 9/5TDB  9/5 = 97%DW  = 96.77%  no airport deuces (sorry Phil)BP  30/8/5 = 98.48%$1 denomination and upJoB  9/5 = 98.45%DB  9/7 = 99.11%DDB 9/6 = 98.98%DW44 Airport Deuces 98.98%BP 30/8/5 = 98.48%and the big winner ... TDB  9/7  99.58% in the high roller room. So, in conclusion if you are a quarter player in the area the paytables are basically what you will find elsewhere in Biloxi, but the machines are nicer and the seats are more comfortable. If you are bored with the same old games and want to try some new machines they have them all.The dollar player, particularly those who enjoy DB or TDB, may be happy here. One note, they do not have a video poker bar! In fact they only have one bar and it has no bar tops at all. BTW, would any of the smart math guys know what these two paytable percentages would be? I could not find them on VPfree2.comThe first game is called Straight Flush Deluxe. 5 coin game.Royal 800Straight Flush 400Four of a kind 250Full house 45Flush 30Straight 20Trips 15Two Pair 5Jacks 5The second is called Deuces Double Double Bonus ( 6 coin game, max coin paytable shown).Natural Royal 40004 Deuces 1000Aces with 2,3,4  2000Aces   10003,4 with A,2,3,4,  1000Quad 3 or 4 no kicker 500Quad 5-K  250wild royal 1005 of a kind  60straight flush 45wild quads  20full house  20flush  15straight 10trips  6Feel free to post any other questions and I will reply if I know the answer.

Nice report Mr. Dawes. I expected the quarter denomination to be inferior to the dollar. Since it takes $3 coin in per point for VP than it is for $1 for slots, the cashback return will be at 0.11%

It definitely seems to be a more superior option than Beau Rivage. Now people have to find out the comps they will get for putting in $5000 coin in (1000 hands) or $10000 coin in for 9/6 DDB or 9/7 DB or Airport DW.
The first game is called Straight Flush Deluxe. 5 coin game.

Royal 800
Straight Flush 400
Four of a kind 250
Full house 45
Flush 30
Straight 20
Trips 15
Two Pair 5
Jacks 5
This game is 92.91% played optimally, so it is best to avoid the game entirely despite the gimmick.

I do not know about the other game, I am guessing that the sixth coin will play a huge role in the reduction of the game's return.

Alpax, thanks for the info on Straight Flush Deluxe. I played approximately $4800 coin in and earned $11 in comp dollars. If I receive a mailer I will post an update.I don't know if the 750 point free buffet offer is just a promo for the grand opening or if it will last longer. Also, they are offering a $500 loss rebate in the form of free play by mailer. However, I could not get a definite answer if it applied to VP. One slot tech said yes, an employee at the players club had no idea, and another employee on the floor actually said "no casino anywhere allows free play on VP".Rascal, I only checked on $1 denomination, but the machine was in the high limit room and $1 was the lowest denomination on the machine.

Did you possibly mistype the straight flush pay on Straight flush Deluxe, Mr. Dawes? You have the royal in a "for 1" basis, four of a kind or less in a "for 5" basis. And then "straight flush" as 400. Alpax assumed you meant the Royal was 800 for 1 and the SF was 400 coins or 80 for 1.

I think you meant the Royal was 800 for 1 and the SF as 400 for 1, or 2000 coins. That would make the game pay 97.99%, which would make a LOT more sense considering the game's title is "Straight Flush Deluxe". But beware, optimal strategy is a mess given the high straight flush payout.

Assuming straight flush is 2000 coins
9/6 Straight Flush Deluxe Strategy

Unfortunately the other game is such a paytable, I'm not sure there is any premade calculator that can handle it. I really like the concept though! It might bring some former deuces players back! And do you know if a natural straight flush pays 250 in that game? It would make sense.

Thanks for catching that Vman. I did mistype that. The royal payout should be 4000 and the straight flush is 2000 to make all payouts based on 5 coins.

An update for those interested in checking out the Scarlet Pearl. I posted earlier that I did not get a definitive answer about the $500 loss rebate promotion being applicable to VP play. I just received a mailer and it did have the loss rebate in the form of free play for my video poker losses! They divided the loss in two. So half the rebate is good one week and the other half the next. This promo runs until December 30th. Also, I have already started receiving free room offers. So, at least for now, they seem to be generous with comps and mailers and the loss rebate is a great promo for vp players.

Another Update. I recently returned to the Scarlet Pearl and found two more games that I overlooked on my first trip. They are Super Times Pay Spin Poker and Pick a Pair. Also, they have extended the $500 loss rebate promo until the end of January for new players on their first day of play. I received my rebate in a mailer divided in half for two different time periods in the form of free play. It was easy to redeem on the machine and it is good on VP! (even though one employee incorrectly told me free play was never good on VP.) If I had known for sure this rebate applied to video poker I would have been playing 99.58 TDB in the high limit room instead of .25 DDB. I almost never play dollars, but with a loss rebate why not.

Yeah, with a loss rebate dollar TDB is a good choice for "both phases".

If I was aware of this before my tunica trip, I would have half tempted to keep going for the promo. But the Biloxi area is about 10 hours away from me. :(

Any of the pickem games have trips at 25 credits for max bet? That's the bare minimum for the game to even possibly be good.
