I think Uber is a better option than cabs. There haven't been as many issues with Uber drivers as one may think and they do a very good job of screening their drivers. The passengers rate the driver on things such as courtesy, promptness, cleanliness of the vehicle, and the driver can rate the customer on the same things. The rider is not obligated to tip an Uber driver and that helps when considering cost. Uber gives you the driver's name and a description of the vehicle they will be driving so some people may have pretended to be Uber drivers and then assaulted women. I would trust them.
