Gambler's Lock Box

Post by FloridaPhil »

My problem these days is that I consistently give back my winnings.  If I could hire a 500 pound gorilla to hold my tickets, I think I would do much better.   I ordered a gambler's lock box from Amazon today.  It's a little wallet with a lock.  You can put your winnings inside of it and keep the key at home.  Anyone ever tried this?

Not yet Phil. As a matter of fact, FAA has been talking about it recently and may already have one. I was doing good this year and then my last session was a major discipline breakdown. never varied from perfect strategy play, but got ahead early and then nothing came in the rest of the session. Now back to square 1 or a little behind for 2016. When I have the Mrs. with me, it is not such a problem. The problem is when gambling by myself. I am actually looking into the sizes and options as we speak. Have a money belt, but unfortunately the zipper doesn't lock.

ROTF! This from the utmost sober disciplinarian and foremost CS proponent! It must be the end of days. Congratulations on knocking me over with a feather.

My lock box for general money management (wins or losses) has been my g/f for multiday trips. But I typically have been pretty good even without her the last few years. I slipped up a little this last Tunica trip though. My biggest win of the trip (on a slot machine actually) was eaten up in video poker that night. Oops.

Slot machine windfall is like a gift. No thinking involved, just press buttons and hope! What a nice feeling it must be.

over with a feather.[/quote]Good one!  Since I gave up CS, the old problems have reared up again.   I drive an hour and a half to get to the casino and the same time back home. If I play max coins, cash out everything $50 and higher, I almost always go home a winner or near break even. The problem is I don't want to go home in two hours.   I came to play so I give back my winnings, stay too long and lose again.  I never have this problem with CS because it allows me to play all day for peanuts.  To combat this I have been upping my cash for the day.  I find the problem to be the same no matter what the denomination.  The only way out of this is to lock up my winnings so I have no choice but to leave.  I could play the Dancer way and just watch my bankroll disappear all together.  This is not a shot at Bob Dancer. His strategy does not work for everyone, me in particular.

You stay, you pay. Sound familiar? With a two hour commute, I left after three and a half hours yesterday. Nothing was really happening and I resigned myself to leaving up $12 net trip cost, thanks to a lucky roll of the dice. Hell making a sole dollar off last machine. Revert to CS at the two hour mark. You lose peanuts on a cold cycle. Two drinks mitigate even that loss. You may even notice a hot machine. I regret bypassing it, but at least have knowledge to file for future reference.

@ Phil: this is the downside of having a win/stop limit. You might hit your win goal early and leave a winner after a short round of hands.

Leaving with a win is such a good feeling. Even if you have only been at the casino for 15 minutes. It is sort of a habitual thing --- you have to get into the habit. It is actually a sort of a high to walk out with a win, so if you look at it like that maybe you can make it work for you. But it is like any other healthy habits --- you have to start them before they will work. Once you get into the habit of WANTING that good winning feeling it will be easier to jump up and leave even if you have only been there 15 minutes. Leaving as a loser is such a downer......keep reminding yourself of that. Please try the jump-up-and-leave method. You will be amazed at what a rush it gives you and then you will actually start looking forward to it. Have something else you can do with your time, like walking on the beach or shopping or something, not just driving back home.
