machine malfunction or strange coincidence?

Post by billryan »

Playing a three play Deuce game and I hold a 2.
Am dealt four jacks. Then four jacks, and another four jacks.
Strange coincidence? I cashed out and left.
Sadly, it was a ten cent machine.

Wow, that is freaky. The odds must be astronomical. I probably would have cashed out but then call the slot tech over just out of curiousity.

Did you happen to snap a pic? I'd love to see that!

I think it is just a rare happening. I always borrow this phrase from Fla Phil. In vp anything can and will happen. By the way, if anyone can tell me how I can go over 1.5m hands with close to perfect play and only hit 3 Royals, I would love to know.

Leave the slot tech alone. It's all good.

Are you saying you held a two on a triple play deuces machine and filled in JJJJ on each of the three lines?

If that's the case, don't mention it on WoV because you'll be laughed off the forum. Odds of 3 quints of the same rank when already holding just a sole deuce: 1 in 2.48 quadrillion.

Is this trying to poke fun at spxChrome or something? Without a pic, I really can't believe something that unlikely, no offense. And even if you gave a pic, I might question a photoshop. It is ridiculously unlikely. DaBurglar claimed something much rarer once though. I filled the page with zeros on that one. lol

That's why I asked about a machine malfunction.

Well, it could happen on a fair machine, anything "could" happen on a fair machine. But many other explanations are much more likely, including a machine malfunction.

And now I'm annoyed that I made a pretty bad math goof last night. The odds of this happening on a fair machine after just holding the deuce is actually 1 in 709 trillion. 1 in (47*46*45*44/24)^3/8 I even doubt 709 trillion hands of video poker haven't even been played in casinos worldwide in 40 years. Doesn't mean it can't happen of course.

I'm a bit disappointed there isn't a smart phone pic of this, I would love to see it.

What's sick is filling all 3 lines with 4 deuces is much, much easier. That's one in (47*46*45*44/24/44)^3 = 66.6 billion and would have been worth a lot more. :(

I think a better calculation would be the probability of filling in quads of any rank on the each of the three lines. While all the same rank is certainly unusual, it would still be post worthy even if it were different ranks.  I think the odds would still be astronomical, but not quite what was calculated.

Actually that IS what I calculated.      To have a specific rank (e.g. Jacks) is 8 times rarer.
