Re: Royalless Streak Round Three
I hit 3 royals in AC on Thursday. Granted, I play 5- and 10-hand at a time.

still those are some great hits and a very rare occurrence at that. I bet your hands played total was less than 20k so that was really a seldom done event.

Talk about a kick in the pants. I have a friend who over the years has done so well with regular traditional slots, that he is now only playing one hundred dollar machines. 134k in W-2Gs just in a couple of weeks. I don't know the exact number he is ahead, but it is quite substantial. That just proves my point that whether it is vp or slot play, long term results can approach infinity. My friend has no interest at all in vp and doesn't understand cards at all. I have watched him play many sessions and somehow he does have a knack for hitting on the slots. He only plays the old types and none of the new gimmick ones with animation etc. I'm guessing the machines he is playing return in the 91% range, but no more. He is just lucky. He does have a bad session sometimes, but the next trip he always makes it up and more. I am glad for him, but at the same time it is frustrating to play 99 percent vp machines and end up a loser year after year by not a small amount by any means. Such is the nature of gambling in general I guess. I am borrowing from Phil again and adding another phrase....In vp and gambling in general, anything can and will happen.

Wow. Uncle Sam sure appreciates your friend's casino patronage. I'd love to get up the gumption to throw my money away at slots sometime. But I learned that any deviation from good old 99.54 will be paid for dearly.

olds442.to satisfy yourself u should check out foxwoods..I have been there many(30-40)times.bring your walking shoes as u will do a lot more walking than at the barn(that's what I call Mohegan cause just about every time I go I get milked).you will earn more points for your play at foxwood.you will not see the paytables that you see at Mohegan.i am a single line player.mostly ddb and tdb..there is a pretty good variety of games..not to sure you will find the bonus deuces wild game u play at the barn.they have nickel progressives for the royal but I believe its 40 credits in per punch to qualify for the progressive..they have 25 cent and dollar progressives for the royal only.i have found them to be $ suckers..in general Mohegan is a nicer more comfortable place to play..another positive at foxwood is I have never had a machine malfunction on me.as always I personally believe its being at the right machine at the right time..u never know maybe the change of venue will work for you

A solid endorsement. Even rookies know the deal. I love how you call it The Barn. I am clueless about your market, but I understand. Half of AC would be barnyard worthy. Fortunately, that still leaves abundant options. If you get milked and bilked, pursue the silk.

Thanks again for the suggestion. Just back from another trip earlier today. An overnight with a great suite I didn't even ask for. No Royals of course, but I did see 2 hit by others. Dropped 400 on DBDW on Multi Strike, and then plopped the final hundred into the All Star dollar machine that pays 800 for 1 on the spin poker game even for one dollar bet. I was lucky enough to hit 4 deuces on the center line. That was the only line I was playing. Had 400 of the 500 back, but wasted 200 of it on a job dollar game that wasn't hitting quads or even full houses.
Going back up late in the day tomorrow for the Frampton concert and after that, will head over and give Foxwoods a shot. Mohegan is sold out the next couple of weeks on rooms due to the Barret Jackson show coming in 2 weeks. Another good reason to head over to Foxwoods. Unless my high rollar buddy is there tomorrow which is unlikely and gives me his room, I'll either stay at Foxoods or more likely just head home after a rest. I have no points over there, but it is certainly worth giving it a shot or two or three.
Edited to add...saw high roller buddy just before I headed home today. He dropped 7k in about an hour on the slots and called it quits for the day. I had given him a watch out fatherly pc a couple of days ago and reminded him that the slots will not only get him back in short order when he is ahead that much, but he will screw up his taxes big time. Even if he washes out on the Fed side, he'll have to hand over to the crooks who run Ct. 6 or 7 percent on the gross winnings. He will screw up the rest of his return and deductions too. Just as an aside, our Governor now has a 24 percent approval rating and we are supposed to be one of the richest states in the country. Yeah right. Not after all the freebies, waste, fraud, and corruption. Budget is a mess and on and on.

Another nice report Olds. I have been following your bad streak and I have not been on anything like it. Many years back I did go on a 18 month bad royal losing streak that I thought would never end. At the time I did not play near as much as I do now. I really hate to say this but when you report seeing others around you hitting royals it just makes me think you are on the worst ever bad luck streak. I do understand your thinking about the machines. I to can't seem to hit a 4 to the royal (1 in 47) so far this year,I see about 3 four to the royal every trip on average yet I have hit 8 inside SF with the same 1 in 47 odds. Once again I have to call it bad luck as I see others hitting them 4 to the royals. I sure hope your luck changes as it takes a toll on bankroll and the fun of playing gets lost in bad luck streaks. Good luck to you at Foxwoods.

Olds, you are obviously on the worst bad streak anyone can possibly imagine. You didn't ask, but here's what I would do. When these things happen, it's best to get back to basics. Pick one of the traditional video poker games with the best odds available that you feel you can play accurately for a long time. I prefer deuces, but it's your choice. Don't play anything but that game and stick with it. Play the lowest max coin number that gives you the full return and don't switch games even if it bores you to death. Don't play around with coin counting strategies and stay away from slots and all quirky multiplier games. In other words, grind it out like Bob Dancer on a budget. If you do this, I believe you will be financially better off and your royals will return. Just my 2 cents...

Must have read my mind. Already started with 9/6 job last session with just bet 5 quarters. When ahead a decent amount and if I have time, I do play a little center line s only Bonus Deuces Wild on the spin poker machine that does pay 800 for just bet 1. Also this is a 98.8 paytable which is very hard to find on this game. That way, I get out of the boredom because this game is more fun, and also have a chance to hit not only the Royal for 800 bucks, but 4 deuces with an ace good for 400 bucks, 4 deuces good for 200 bucks, or even 5 aces good for 80 bucks. the 2,3,4 quads are good hits too. Of course much more streaky, so I just use the ahead job money if any for this game. Just one session so far and minimal losses. Another one with the Mrs. tonight. Fri is her play nite. She is so lucky on the DDB nickel game with the terrible paytable. And that like you say....in vp anything can and will happen.
Edited to add the following.....I think all of us get amazed with streaks one way or the other or weird hands appearing that don't seem possible. We all know the math but forget about infinity. Think about every dealt hand or even things like on a 5 hand game everything being dealt exactly that way and exactly in that order. Those probabilities are astronomical, yet because they are nothing hands, we don't even think about the odds.
