Link to article - Recent Questions I Have Received

For this week's column, Mr. Dancer did a Q&A. At least for me, it reveals that I did not know about before is that Mr. Dancer sets priorities on health and the relationship with his spouse over video poker.

The responses might also be a revelation to some folks here too.
Haters gonna hate.
Most of these questions were asked on this forum a few months ago and I have been looking forward to his answers.  I disagree with Bob Dancer on many issues, but "Hate"?  No way...  As a video poker superstar and public authority on the subject, he intentionally puts himself out there.  His wise guy posts and offhanded comments are designed to get attention and it works.   "Say anything you want about me as long as you spell my name right."Bob Dancer is focused on one thing, making money from video poker.   He has a product to sell and he is a very skillful marketer.  What video poker player doesn't want to win six figure jackpots?  My disagreements with Bob Dancer have nothing to do with his strategies or anything personal about him.  I draw the line when he publicly condones professional gambling as a legitimate career choice.  I also don't believe he could currently support his lifestyle on his video poker winnings alone, but that's solely my opinion.  This forum will function if everyone has the ability to post what they want within the rules.  We should all be able to agree to disagree if necessary.

Dancer will continue to be an important voice for the video poker community. Who will pick up the mantle when he is gone I for one really can't say. I dont have feelings either way, but have respect for him and his accomplishments as far as my knowledge goes.
I think we are all frustrated though with the decline of video poker and executives short sightedness and plain "ignorance" when it comes to vp. I recently wrote a blog about the relationship of continued tightening of the machines and the eventual collapse of video poker. I just hope Dancer or somebody influential convinces the casinos that video poker will be a nice hold and great action for the casino, attract more Mellinials, if they put in good games like full pay bonus poker or 9/6 jacks with progressive meters that, although not 100%, eventually will get there and surpass it...remembering only the person that hits it gets the full positive ER while the others even the ones who play fast and perfect, do not. It's a win, win, win. Otherwise, the decline will continue and executives will keep scratching their heads and thinking vp is a dead game, while they don't realize it's because they are poisoning it.

When I began playing VP almost 10 years ago, it was to a large part due to the VP experts. When I was first directed to consider taking up VP by the Director of Slots at Delta Downs I knew nothing about VP and hated to go gambling. Upon his recommendation I decided to learn to play it, I devoured every article I could about VP, purchased software to practice and used Bob's expertise and rationale for playing mathematically sound. Jean Scotts' knowledge of play and comps and from the Wizard of Odds how to correctly play. I've not met any of them personally but I owe them the respect they deserve for being willing to share their expertise and love of the game.

In our dreams and fantasies Sweet C and I would love to be able to play on high return games all the time at the bank roll that Bob has. (Pure envy) But, being from a backwards state (Texas-which doesn't even allow casinos) we are blessed to play less than 100% games in Louisiana. However; from Bob and the others we have learned to play at a high effectiveness and game the system to minimize our losses and maximize our gambling pleasure/entertainment.

Thanks, Bob, Jean, and the Wizard of Odds

Nice to hear your stories DAA and Double L!

I did not intend for any negativity when bringing it up

Mr. Dancer made it clear that his line of work is not for everyone, and some of the big downsides that was repeatedly mentioned are:

* Being in smoke filled casinos
* Being able to master many games with 99.9% accuracy, some games take a several hundreds of hours.
* Prioritizing holidays as an opportunity to play and not to spend time with family
* Unpredictable schedules and play session lengths

At least those were detrimental factors for myself to not consider pursuing the VP life; also lacking the source of an enormous bankroll as well.

I have overlooked this part initially, the fact that Mr. Dancer is turning back on what he preached about being what it takes to be successful is due to his age and the tightness in the casinos. I do not blame the person and I forsee the person is nearing his limitations.

thank you Mr Dancer. Sorry he makes people upset with his crazy harsh posts but the guy has made my gambling time so much better. Yeah he cuts straight to the chase and says it like it is and more BUT I think his methods prove out, what more could you ask. I bought none of his material and learned off the internet. Because of him and a few others I do pretty dang well. The constant attacks on people here sharing their EARNED knowledge for free (don't have to buy anything, just pay attention and read) is ruining this forum. Jealousy is like that though. I really thought he was just a smug jerk for along time then realized he just says the same messages over and over, some just can't take harsh constructive criticism. Took me a while to swallow my pride and actually read what he says

poker, I think you are being a bit too harsh. I can't think of someone off the top of my head, but if I were to be jealous of anyone, it would not be the person you mentioned.

his advice on the 'art' of playing VP and all that is involved is impeccable. he obviously knows the math and how to apply it. I have credited him with treating it like a business, including keeping a close eye on all expenses and getting the most one can get, from the casinos.

as you mentioned, his delivery is harsh, he is obviously impressed with himself. if he butts in to criticize someone, who was not seeking or giving advice, and treats them with disrespect, he deserves treatment of a similar nature.

but, being harsh, does not mean his playing advice is not worth listening to. when advising someone on how to succeed, it is also important to note the associated perils. recently, he has made strides in pointing out those perils.

in today's world, playing VP for a living, is a low margin business. and, despite what some suggest, playing a positive game is just not available in all casinos at all denominations.

as important as it may be to give people hope they can win, it is equally important to warn them that making a living at VP is unlikely.

If a teacher has a student that keeps insisting one plus one sometimes equals five, is it harsh to correct them?
Even if they are not his students, if a person is giving out bad information, the people who are reading the bad info should hear the corrections.
Pissing your money away on crappy games doesn't mean that no one can succeed playing good games.

Dancer has never suggested every casino has good games. What he suggests and what you and others choose to ignore, is not to play unless it's on games with proper payouts.
If someone needs to get a fix by playing ****ty machines, perhaps it's time to check out G.A.
