My Video Poker wish list/bucket list

Post by DaBurglar »

What are the various Video poker "HITS" that you have NEVER achieved, but really want to before you die? Here are some of mine:1)  Name of Game  "FIVE ACES POKER" (usually found on ALL STAR Machines Menu).....Quite simply I want to get FIVE ACES and the 6000 credit payout for the hand!   I'd even be happy, temporarily, actually witnessing SOMEONE else do it first!2)  Name of Game "Blackjack Bonus Poker".....in this game the two "black" Jacks, Clubs and Spades, act as a type of WILD card and increase various types of Quad Payouts.....catching four aces with one of the two Black Jacks yields a payoff of ROYAL Proportions!3)  Name of Game  "A-C-E-S Bonus poker" .... this game has the word "ACES" spelled out by getting the four aces in Sequence to spell the word....it also pays the same as a Royal.  Never caught it, never seen it caught.4) Name of Game "Super Times Pay" 10 lines DDB .... quite simply, I actually want to be DEALT a primo-winning hand while catching the 10X multiplier (I'd settle for a full house as a minimum but would prefer a quad or better)......5)  Name O' Game  "Super Aces Poker" 10 lines....another simple straightforward game, whereby catching four aces yields a payoff of 2000 credits, No kicker required!Usually the rest of the paytable sucks (i.e.  6 to 1 for a fullhouse), but given how often four aces seems to appear, many devotees are OK with the paytable,,,,,,,I want to be DEALT four Aces while playing this 10 line game!    Oh sure, i know being dealt a Royal is a far better result, but four aces on the deal in this game is UNIQUE & Truly special!I have others but I will stop here and let other people post and list their Video Poker wish/Bucket list.

I used to play a fair amount of $5 9/6 JoB. Never hit the royal for $20K but I did hit a straight flush and doubled it up!

Dealt Royal on Double Super Times Play with multiplier for automatic 20x multiplier win, for $400,000.I get it, a HUMONGOUS windfall is always nice, but your emphasis is more on the actual payout, whereas my original message with this thread is about the actual HANDS themselves and their seeming uniqueness and rarity.   If my only, or primary concern was simply MONEY, I would not be playing video poker at all.Another unique result on a game that has been around a long time involves the infamous GOLD MINE BONUS POKER found on the old BALLY Machines from 1996......in that game a full house yields the "BONUS SCREEN" where you choose 3 out of 5 gold nuggets for a payout that is supposed to range from at least 60 credits to as high as 1000!    I have played this game a LOT over the past 4-1/2 years, tens of thousands of hands (seriously, a conservative estimate is about 40k to 45k hands of Gold Mine Bonus Poker, 25 cents), and I have the following to report:The rate of incidence for full houses, which should be normally about once every 80-100 hands on a normal machine/game  was more in the range of once every 150, a significant difference.    The average "bonus" payout for my three nuggets was right around 90, and was pretty stable, meaning the variance (or RANGE) of the bonus was 60 for the low and 165 for the absolute MOST I ever received, but most bonuses were right around the average, 90!     I never came close to the alleged 1000 maximum, nor did I witness anyone exceed 200 for a bonus........

Here's my dream.  I walk up to a $5 video poker machine, put in a $20 bill and play single coin deuces wild.  I get a small run up and switch to max coins.  The very next hand I hit quad deuces for $5K.  I walk past the food court smiling as I go, get my car and go home to make a bank deposit.   I could dream about hitting a $20K royal, but there's a limit to my fantasies.

I loved playing Gold Mine Poker and did actually hit the max bonus back at the former Harrah's St. Louis on quarters! I liked those old Bally machines. Even the keno option where you win a few coins on zero hits. And there were those weird devil games too.

I will make another more incisive confession/post:I have already promised myself that, should I EVER actually hit a jackpot of 10,000 bucks (or more), I will cease all video poker (casual, dabbling, all of it....) for the following 12 months.    Now that may not seem like that big of a deal to some of you, but here is what I have learned (or reaffirmed since I probably already knew this long ago):    ANYTIME you stay and visit a Hotel/Casino, it is extremely hard to COMPLETELY and totally avoid all forms of play and gambling.    I am not saying it is impossible and in fact, I have done exactly that (stayed at least a day without playing ANYTHING in a Hotel/casino), but it requires vigorous concentration and vigilance! The last 12-15 months I reduced my total video poker activity (primarily in AC) by roughly 50%;   I re-focused my gambling time and bankroll to emphasize LIVE poker tournaments and cash game play, and I am glad to report I did benefit financially from this action overall (not counting my last trip though, since I am using THAT as a new starting, focal point for a different upcoming strategy and course of action!)   But if I happen to be playing a multiline game, and catch one of those hands where either you are dealt a "monster" hand, or you catch a multiplier or some combo of the two events, and the handpay equals or exceeds 10 grand, I will gladly cease video poker play for 12 months, relish the victory, and use that new found "Bonus" to my Bankroll to focus exclusively on TOURNAMENTS, since that amount of money would indeed finance at least a couple (2) good, high value NL Holdem Tournament BUY-INs for roughly 12 months!   That's my hope, plan, but I am not counting on it!Of course if I happened to win "only" $9000, or even $8,500, I would make a similar pledge, albeit a little more limited (maybe 6-9 months instead)......anything less than that though, and its business as usual.
