Strange health scare
Friday night I am at dinner at Texas Station when I get this throbbing pain in my left shoulder.
Within minutes, my range of motion is non-existent. I drive myself home, where I have to get out of the car to swipe my gate key with my right hand , that's how limited my use of the left is.
I Google my symptoms and conclude a frozen shoulder is the most likely conclusion. As I just moved, I don't have a primary physician and start calling around to see what urgent care takes my insurance.
I decide to tough it out until Monday to see if it gets better but Sunday afternoon, it's really throbbing so I go to the urgent care center.
Turns out a calcified piece of scar tissue has broken off and is now impinging the shoulder. Pain in the ass but a shot or two plus some physical therapy and all should be well in about three weeks.
The funny thing is if it had happened to my right shoulder, I would be thinking all the video poker had caused ed it.

Bill, if that happened to me I would have gone to the ER immediately. At my age it could have been a stroke. Sorry to hear about your issue, but thank God it wasn't something much worse.

It could be a stroke at any age, and it was a concern.
I've separated this particular should numerous times and had it Roto-scooped a few years ago, so I was leaning more towards this than a stroke. Old rugby injuries mount up as we get older.

Gotta stay active and get some exercise. I've seen what years of non-stop videopoker play have done to some AP's in AC.

Gotta stay active and get some exercise. I've seen what years of non-stop videopoker play have done to some AP's in AC.+1 Seeing as how I was FAB, I typically am the last person in any room to pointlessly make fun of or mock individuals with obvious health and mobility issues, but in the case of essentially self inflicted problems I am a little more direct in a GENERAL sense (again, each individual deserves some basic consideration and dignity, and we NEVER ever really know what each INDIVIDUAL has gone through or experienced in his/her/its life), and there are obvious, NO-DOUBT-ABOUT-IT causal links and effects at work amongst the population in the USA that indicate the 50% overweight and 35% Obesity rates are self inflicted. In today's American society, life is too easy for people in regards to PHYSICAL ACTIVITY....we ride, we sit, we eat far too much and far too often.....it is that simple. Our diet is horrible as well, but the MAIN culprit it lack of activity (since, if a person is otherwise active, even a junky diet can be burned off over time......simple math: Calories burned > Calories consumed = Steady, even decreasing weight)A look around the casinos of AC these days and it is cringe worthy, and sad.....as one who knows what it is like to be immobile (to a certain degree, but NOT to all degrees....the things I CAN do and ways I CAN move I take full advantage & use of)), I feel for these people, and yet i want to scream "STOP IT! STOP EATING and START MOVING! Ditch that Scooter.....accept the fact you CANNOT, and SHOULD NOT be in another casino again for the next 12-15 months and focus focus focus on your health; stay home, eat right and exercise! That way, when you have lost weight, feel 1000% better and can move without help, you can RETURN to the casino and have lots more fun and a better time!"

Like DB said, at times I feel like they are filming a scene for The Walking Dead at Harrahs AC.

not a medical person, but first thought of left shoulder pain, would be heart attack.
would not suggest the average person self diagnose.
good news, read once, that outside of a medical facility, one of the best places to have a heart attack is a casino. someone is always watching, they have the defib machines on site and more importantly, they do have some folks, who know how to use them.

I was really talking about some of the "pros" I knew years ago, who seemingly aged 20 years in 10 years, I think primarily due to the stress of chasing constantly deteriorating paytables, comps, promotions etc. But the other points are obviously correct as well. We can't let this fascination with VP take over our lives. Vote with your feet!
