Why do people think they can make money playing VP
IF one had a monster bankroll, could do 5mill coin in and get that magical 101% payback then we are talking about winning at VP.
Assuming the factors stated above, there is still no guarantee that person will come out a winner.   Given enough time the math says he will, but will it happen in his lifetime?   This is the problem with video poker math.   Whoever you are, whatever skills you may have and whatever opportunities are available to you, it still comes down to what happens when you are playing.  Dancer is right about one thing, the only machine in a casino that has a 100% guaranteed pay back is the change machine and I'm not sure that will work 100% of the time.

FP, are you saying that we can even be short changed at the Change machine? These casinos are sneakier than I thought. I never use them myself. I'm too busy grinding up a storm, pursuing the first/next quad of my limited gaming day window.

Back before TITO I would be short changed a lot cashing out a bucket of coins, particularly with dollar coins. But when you'd complain they'd just shrug it off and say I must have left some coins in the hopper or had dropped some someplace.

I kind of missed cashing out the coins, until a few years ago. went to binions (I think) a couple of years ago, and in the back, they had a bank of quarter cash machines, no tickets. I was amazed how dirty my hands got handling all those coins.

I like the tickets now. I guess, be careful what you wish for.

I remember one great night (waaay back when) coins were still around and was playing quarters and won a royal three times in one night.  My buddies were getting awful tired of carrying all my quarters in buckets for me.  Ahhhh, good times....
FP, are you saying that we can even be short changed at the Change machine?
Funny you should ask.  Last week at the Tampa Hard Rock I was walking by a change machine and a younger guy was pounding away on it.  He was obviously upset and I asked him what happened.  He said the machine had sucked up a $250 ticket and it got stuck in the machine.  I told him not to panic and shortly an attendant came around the corner to fetch the wayward ticket.   I guess you could say he hit a reverse jackpot....

I've told this story before but many years ago this one redemption machine at a local casino was adding an extra 0 to every ticket. So if you put in $20 you got $200. I noticed the long line before I was told what was going on. It took about 20 minutes before they shut it down.

Well that's the highlights

Somehow and I have no idea how its even possible but the ticket machine was adding an extra 0 to every ticket. So people where putting $20 or $100 into a nearby slot machine hit cashout and run to the redemption. It didn't do it with change just tickets. I remember looking over and this one redemption machine had a line of about 30 people waiting. I thought it was odd but didn't think much about it until I heard the story shortly after they came and shut the redemption machine down. The malfunction made it to a local paper and the casino admitted they lost $40,000 (more or less can't remember the exact total) but they were not going to review the tapes and try to recover the money was the bottom line of the story.
