Math can tell you the right games to play, but it won't affect your
actual results. Luck is the 500 pound gorilla in the room. Without
enough of it at the right time, you are a loser no matter how skillful
or disciplined you are.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Absolute gospel. Incidentally, you put luck on quite the diet. It is an an 800 pound gorilla.
I believe in the stock market, even with no guarantees, and I bet/invest at a level that reflects that belief.
Me too. When you're investing in the stock market you are given actual documents before you buy showing bank balances, profits, losses, history and audited financials. You are investing in a company and sharing in the profits. Occasionally you share in the losses as well. When investing in video poker you are given a tiny bit of hope that you can succeed when the guy at the top of this profession is saying you can't. The fun of gambling is dreaming that you can beat the odds. Who wants to be the one to destroy that dream? Not I....

I moved to Vegas because my contract that kept me in NY expired and my rent here is less than I paid in property taxes last year. I have two patios, two pools, a 24 hour health club and a half acre dog park, all at a tremendous savings over last year's living expenses. It also has an Air hub that allows me to fly almost anywhere without changing planes and is in a state with no income tax.
Another significant savings.
Milk at Smiths is $2.29 a gallon. In NY, it was $4.00.I paid $2.21 at my last fill up using my Smith's discount.
Equally important, it has no snow and very little humidity.I hate humidity. I was offered a job in Tampa, but turned it down because of it.
Since I now live in the land of full pay machines,
I figure I should learn to take advantage of them.
In NY, I lived about eight miles from Aqueduct racino.
Im so addicted that I went there zero times in the five years it's been open. Why? Because it had lousy machines and a horrible players club. Once here, I concentrated on making premium level at two of the better clubs. This month I retrench and work on perfecting my game.It would be foolish to play at higher stakes until I am 100%.
The casinos will be there next month, as will I.
I've never said I want to do this fulltime. At 58, I consider myself retired. I am very hopeful I can treat this as a part time job. I'm confident that won't be an issue.

Funny thing about luck. I've found the harder one works, the luckier one gets.

Bill, I think you have it right. Moving out of the NY rat race to Vegas sounds great to me. The savings in taxes alone should be enough to fund your VP, not to mention snow tires and overcoats! I also love that you are approaching the game as a part time job. If you don't need the money, I think you will do OK with it. I still work part time as a consultant. I consider myself retired, but I love the work. If you love what you do you will never tire of it. I enjoy your posts. Keep it up.

if a casino is relatively small, I'll leave after one $20,000+
jackpot --- just because a small casino needs time to recuperate after
big hits.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Excellent strategy. I wish I knew the feeling! I leave after a RF and move after a quad. Same theory. Recovery time for the Progressive bank or individual machine.
Not really. Bob leaves a small casino because two big hits in a short time may cause them to either eliminate the game, down grade it or get him banned. I understand leaving after a Progressive is hit, letting it build back up, but isn't leaving an individual machine basically voodoo?

One example Mr. Dancer brought up is that he was on the watch list by Boyd for playing on a bank of $5 Bonus Deluxe on 10x point day at Suncoast. It was purposely set up as an AP trap.
It did not help that Mr. Dancer hit 3 royal flushes in a short span after being on the watch list. He claimed that his B Connected card was restricted and was taken off the mailer list.
So I did hear in the past you cannot hit the goose that lays the golden eggs hard.

But I have been burned too often by staying, in deference to conventional wisdom. It just never works for me.

A little respect for superstition is okay, in my book. I will move after a huge win on a machine even though the reality is the chances of any machine hitting is pretty much equal.
