Glad you had a successful trip, OMT!  One thing about Laughlin is that all the buffets there pretty much suck. You are better off crossing the river into Bullhead City. They have a Black Bear Diner there as well as an El Charro, on HWY 95. I do like the Saltgrass steakhouse at the Golden Nugget though. Arizona Charlies also uses the  ace I PLAY card, with 10 tier credits to move from Blue to Orange. Not sure on how much $$$ it takes to get 10 tier credits.Riverside and Golden Nugget players club also has food comps and slot play in 2 different reward amounts on your card. Food comps will not take from or affect your slot play like most card do here in LV.

I'm a big fan of the Edgewater buffet, although it has been awhile.

omt, I am assuming you got comped rooms and food, did you also get comp airfare?

what do you feel was the biggest reasons for your success, better paytables, more premium wins or just luck?

noticed you lost at NF, just bad luck, worse paytables? I always play at the same denomination, you increased to 50 cents at NF, do they not have the smaller bet available? it may not make mathematical sense, but, I am always worried I will have good luck on the smaller bet and bad luck on the bigger bet.
All rooms were, indeed, comped, as were almost all meals. We did have to pay for a couple of dinners at Aquarius in Laughlin, as we don't play enough there to get full comps. And, we paid for two lunches at Subway, as we can't seem to get comps there.

Our airfare was paid by Caesars Entertainment, as part of the reward package for reaching seven stars status there last year.

Why was this such a successful trip? I didn't play any differently than I have on many previous much less successful trips, so I really have no explanation except the spells of good luck were sufficient to more than overcome the bad luck ones (and, there were many of those).

We played 8/5 bonus poker at Seneca Niagara, the same game we played a lot in Vegas. Losing $1000 there on 18000-20000 hands ($45000-$50000) coining) is a fairly predictable result when royals are absent.

We play the 50c denomination at Seneca, because there are no decent multiline games at lower denominations. When we first started playing there a few years ago, we were playing a lot of 5 line 50c 9/6 JOB at Casino Rama, so playing similarly at Niagara wasn't hard to do.

Overall, I share your feeling about moving around in denomination. The thought that I will win small and lose big, rather than the reverse, never leaves my mind.

omt, thanks for the answers. if I recall, my memory is not what it used to be, that while this trip may have been better than most, you have had pretty good luck on your multiple trips to Nevada.

omt, thanks for the answers. if I recall, my memory is not what it used to be, that while this trip may have been better than most, you have had pretty good luck on your multiple trips to Nevada. This comment aroused my curiosity, so I looked back at my Vegas results, dating back to early 2011, when we resumed going there more regularly, after a three year hiatus.

There have been nine trips. The results, in order, were -$1100, -$900, -$800, +$2200, +$500, -$1100, +$2500, +$2000, and +$3800.

Since other play over that same period of time has produced losses of around $20000 (mostly at Seneca Niagara), it looks like I should stick to Vegas. But, there is usually significant travel cost to get there and back, so that does have to be considered.

Traveling either way. Niagara has you over a barrel and you're headed down the falls!

My bankroll might plunge, but I will definitely not be plunging over the falls!

omt, glad to hear my memory is still somewhat reliable.

there is an obvious pattern to your results in Nevada improving. I would be curious, and you might also be, what is the pattern to the losses at NF. does it have a similar pattern or maybe reversed?

I don't know that there is any identifiable pattern to my results. My three moat recent Vegas trips have been very successful due to the number of royal flushes that have come in for me. I suspect that, overall for the three trips, I have averaged about one royal flush per 30000-35000 hands.

In contrast, my royal success rate at Seneca Niagara over the past several years is one per 50000 hands.
