Re: Room Comps
Timing the market is like trying to predict when your next royal flush will happen. Young people who buy stocks at today's "inflated" prices will have real assets by the time they retire if they continue to invest regularly and let the market work for them long term. I can tell you how much money they will have if they don't do anything.... Zero.

Is this an opinion or a true fact?
Will people who make an ill advised investment in a company that goes bankrupt be better off than doing nothing?
Will people who make an ill advised investment in a company that goes bankrupt be better off than doing nothing?
Investing in the stock market is not going to a casino. Intelligent investing is diversifying your investments over many market segments and having a long term view. If you are doing this right you will at one time or another hate some of your stocks and love others. I am not a stock market "wizard" and I don't pretend to know everything about investing. I use a well known national company to advise me. We don't regularly buy and sell many stocks. We buy a wide array of high quality stocks and stay with them long term. I will be seventy years old next February and I am still buying stocks. Consistent paced investment, informed advice, diversification and having a long term view is the path to success in the stock market.Sorry we got sidetracked. Back to video poker...

If I was to show you our spending for a year you would not believe me. I am talking about our net loss and it is a loss but very small considering how often we are in casinos. We do not gamble every day but when we do we stay in one casino and do not spread our play with other casinos. Keep your average decent and they will reward you. If we are leaving a casino early in the morning and decide to play we will not use our players card that morning. This is more important to Harrahs (total rewards) than Boyd properties.
It sure looks like you folks have it figured out pretty well.
You enjoy your life, you travel, and you minimize your costs with intelligent use of casino comps. Could it get much better?

I would say a jackpot every now and then but it seems to me like they, as a couple, have hit the jackpot already.....

In Vegas we play mostly Boyd casinos. They count VP the same as slots so it is easy to accumulate points. Also with Boyd we each have a different home casino so we get extra offers from them. Mine is Sams Town and wives is Cal downtown. All the Boyd properties offer us tournaments and cash grabs each month with free rooms. We could probably get 15 rooms a month in Vegas.
No kidding there. At least for Sapphire tier BConnected cardholders, Boyd places not only offers 3 night stay per month upon a player's choice of dates, they offer VP/Slot/Bingo tournament entries with 3 night stay as well as a Macy's gift card/free slot play/free table game chips with 3 more nights stay. There was one month where I could have parlayed a slot tournament, my monthly stay offer, and a Macy's gift card offer into a 9 day stay if I really wanted to. I am not surprised that you are able to string together 15 day stays in a month.
Yes, the cashback for VP and Slots are the same, 1 point for $1 coin in. $1 coin in for Slots is worth 2 tier points. The local casino places do keep track of points earned on slots and VP poker. Slots would carry more weight in the long run due to its larger theoretical hold.
I am surprised how easy it is for you guys to get rooms at Caesars properties for betting low stakes.

I appreciate the clarification of your previous comment as well as the confession about not being an expert or selling a fantasy that the stock market is an automatic way of gaining money like some folks here have.
The big difference people refuse to believe is video poker is entirely odds based and the range results are predictable as long as people play consistently the same (game and denomination). I do not know how much risk analysis helps in the stock market. I do not know anything, but I do know that the math cannot control the United Kingdom leaving the European Union or what goes on in China.
I too would like more video poker and casino comp related discussions like these. Some folks like to put greater attention towards the stock market and the national conventions on the site. Its not CNN, Wall Street, it is video poker dot com. I have scaled back on participation like Mr. Dancer has.
I agree, this is videopoker.com not CNN. Sorry for the derailment. Where were we? Oh yes, I believe you were telling us how video poker is more predictable than the stock market. Please continue.

if one were to play a guaranteed positive VP machine, 24/7, non stop to infinity, it should produce a guaranteed positive return.
there is no guarantee with the stock market.

I cant guarantee which way the next 100 point swing in the market will go, or even the next 1,000 point swing, but I can absolutely guarantee which way the next 100% swing will be.
