Re: value of comps?
of course there will be a wide range of responses to the value of comps. that was the reason for starting the thread. the casino experience means different things to different players. not every decision about choosing a casino or many other options in life, is based solely on some math formula.

The bottom line is I'll take anything and everything the casino will give me. I will go to the casino that will give me the most. I need a place to stay and food to eat at the bare minimum.
As long as the room does not have roaches or pests. As long as the food does not taste horrible and does not give me food poising, it will be enough.
I only go to Vegas about twice a year and I will play about $200 worth of theoretical losses during a two night stay to what I think their math formula will derive (no one can figure that out). Though the variance of one trip can expand the range I can actually lose. I try to go on the middle of the week where the casinos have a hard time filling in rooms, and they will offer a promotion as an incentive, I do not think they will count the value of this promotion towards reducing theoretical loss value.
So far that plan has worked out good for me, but I've gone on rough stretches on VP.

the vast majority of play by posters on this forum, is done outside of Nevada. way too much time comparing everything based on what goes on in a place where the fewest dollars are wagered.

Comps probably mean more to me than they should. I love living like royalty for a few days but mine was mainly because I stuck to one property, sent a lot of business their way by recommendation and was (am) 'nice'. Plus I had an incredible host - he did so much more for us than any other we had before him. I was one of those that treated a group of girls to a bachelorette party weekend. 😂😂
The shows, spa, food and penthouse suite mean a lot to me but since it's come to a screeching halt then my playing and staying there is no longer viable and I've pretty much decided to stay away from Vegas. I am definitely not a high roller but was able to live like one for several years and it was a crazy fun ride. Locally, the comps are not even close but still important. I'm the sucker that was born that minute.
I am also a believer of playing at a single location to maximize slot club status and comps. Again, sorry to hear what happened with your situation. It is beyond your control and it is not your fault with regards to what MGM is trying to do these days; which they're delaying the inevitable of filing for bankruptcy. If you wait it out, you might see your offer improve a little as their last ditch efforts to get you to return. Your host might give you call and you can state your reasons for not coming.
I hardly think they'll be able to fill in the void in between Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years, when Vegas is at its lowest point, I think if you wait till then. If no one is there, they do not make anything.

For yourself and LQ,
I will conclude by suggesting a good balance of gaming value and resort quality of life, you would find it at the Atlantis Resort in Reno, Nevada.

When we travel we try to stay at casinos and anticipate our play will lead to a room comp. Meal comps are nice but not crucial. Combining our play on one account for 1-2 nights generally gets us a high ADT. Our last trip to Phoenix we chose one of the nicest casino/hotels with absolute crap VP. Being mid-week (which we planned) we had minimal room costs and never spent a dime in the casino to get a comp. We stayed there because it was close to an older casino (Fort McDowell) which had outstanding VP and no hotel. Our hits at FMcD paid for our room.
Locally, our first priority is VP pay tables at the denominations we play. Comps then come into play. We will generally play our preferred casino the majority of the time to achieve top tier (combining play until one of us gets to the top). The comps then begin to make a difference. Generally the cash back for top tiers make it worthwhile to maintain. IMO, if we're going to play XX$ coin-in a year then I want max cash back comps at the best VP place I can play. Rooms, meals, valet are just extras. Concert tickets are extras that usually go to the kids. Generally the comped cruises however we take advantage of....
As you said, each person has to decide what the value of each comp is to them. We've even given up free plane rides if they are to poor VP locations.
