I grew up in many places, as an Army brat. As a freshman in high school in 1972, I had to take the bus from Queens Village thru Hollis and St Albans to Jamaica to transfer to another bus to go back thru Hollis and then up to Flushing. I lived about a half mile from where RUN-DMC would later make history. Lew Alcindors parents lived on the next block. My mostly white friends fought with the local gangs from JHS 109 and 192. While I'm sure yours was a rougher neighborhood, being a teen in Queens Village was very different from living on Long Island. As I was the biggest guy in my group, I tended to get in more fights than I might have if I'd been average sized.Carcounter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 12:14 pmAnswer to question 1-You have it and you know what it is. Answer to question number 2-No. I believe you grew up in Nassau County Bill. I know you are not from the projects. And no, I have never used the N word.billryan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 11:31 amWTF is "white guilt"?
Did you ever kick some black kids ass and call them names?
The very first time I used the "N" word around my parents, my dad literally shoved a bar of soap in my mouth and made me suck on it. Except for in discussing a certain rap band straight out of Compton, I don't believe I've said it since.
What you mistake for white guilt is actually Christian Charity. I don't operate out of Fear. I believe and practice that the Strong have an obligation to the weak, the rich to the poor.Feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty. Shelter the homeless.
Don't confuse mercy and compassion for weakness or guilt. To those who are given much, much is expected.
To some, those are empty words. To others, it's our way of life.
