To jokergal
I too go to Indian casinos in So Cal but spend little money there. The pay schedules on their video poker machines there are a joke,no winning streaks are possible.Save your money and just go to Vegas. You get alot of bang for your buck there.I am going to Vegas for Thanksgiving for 4 days to the Rio and Harrahs. My rooms are free, compted by the casinos. That is something you never see in Calif and a lot of times I come home in the plus not much ,but Vegas is way better
Indian casinos have a long way to go to get my money.

                                                                 Happy Thanksgiving!

I live near the Coachella valley and Palm Springs, CA area. I've never had any luck at Casino Morongo, The Spa, Fantasy Springs, Spotlight or Agua Caliente... You can go through $200 in a quick ten minutes on those machines. They need to fix the machines to allow some PLAY TIME! Indian casino's SUCK! I prefer Laughlin... Indian casino's only appeal to the elderly who can't drive a couple of hours.

Crazy today guys (and gals).  I snuck off to Paradise down in Oklahoma.  There are two of them and I played the 7-Clans both this afternoon.  Or I should say that they played me!  The game was 9/6 Double Bonus.  Bad game but the best available other than one 9/6 JOB machine.

Anyway, I'd gone through 1,200 coins (or "units" which is a term we use in discussing bets in Blackjack) and had hit no quads.  Finally, in my last session, I hit quads 4 times and won back half the money I'd lost!

I may have to switch to sports betting

The casinos mentioned here are both located close to Horton, Kansas around 45 miles north of Topeka on Highway 75.  About 15 miles north of Topeka you'll PASS BY Harrah'$ Prairie Band (Pottowattomi tribe managed by Harrah'$).  This is a nice casino...all the fixins and nice hotel, but the gaming sucks there!

Interesting "find" on nickel VP at "The Golden Eagle."  There is a bank of nickel VP machines in the center of the casino (close to the table games) that have 7/5 JOB and 8/6 DB.   However, back in the back in the northeast corner, there are 4 nickel machines that have 9/7 DB!  This is the best I've seen anywhere including Vegas on nickel machines.  Fitzgeralds (Fremont in LV) is reported to have 10/7 nickel poker but I never found it.  Quarter VP here is 9/6 on DB.

On a side note, The Golden Eagle has $3 Blackjack 24/7.  H17, DAS, RSA, and Blackjack is 3:2.  6-deck with 66% pen (2 decks cut off).  Not the best pen but a fun table!  Another good thing on these tables is that they will let you play 2 spots at $3 a spot minimum.  To play more than 2 spots, they require that you double the minimum.

Up the road a piece is the Sac and Fox Indian casino.  The quarter DB VP there is 8/6.  However in the front of the casino right by the Player's Club, there are 4 machines.  One of them is a nickel DB machine with 9/6 paytables.

I'm still torn on this subject.

I've probably played at about a dozen Tribal Casinos and even spent a summer dealing blackjack at the Leelanau Sands Casino (in Peshabetown near Traverse City, Michigan ... NW lower peninsula near Lake Michigan).  I tend to think "shady" dealings at such places is the exception rather than the rule.  Most have little competition, so can have poor paytables (and blackjack rules), and pay less taxes (though almost all DO pay taxes through some sort of state gaming compact), so can make plenty of money without cheating.  Many also have some form of state regulation, though not as strong as Nevada or similar states.

I've won a fair bit through 9/6 JoB "Double Up" at Konocti Vista, and have hit 3 Royals for $4k each at Twin Pine (both a few hours north of San Francisco).

From what I've read I would avoid "unkown" machines at Tribal Casinos, but I understand that if a supplier does business in Nevada it can face sanctions there if machines it sells elsewhere do not live up to Nevada standards.  That does leave open the possibility of the Tribal Casinos "tampering" with the machines, but I doubt that is much more likely than Nevada casinos cheating despite the regulations (just because something is regulated doesn't mean it is fair ... they could be cheating and just haven't gotten caught yet).

For now, I'm comfortable playing at Tribal Casinos when good opportunities present themselves.  Like right now the casino nearest where I live has some progressive Royal Touch machines by Summit Gaming (licensed for use in Nevada) that regularly have jackpots large enough to be +EV probably due to the # of locals that play poor strategy and/or too few or too many coins.  These are nickel machines that pay 500-1 for 1-19 coins bet and the progressive for 20-25 coins bet ... I like that they've twisted the overly simplistic "always bet max coins" mantra to disadvantage players who think they know what they're doing but aren't really paying attention.

The Tribal casinos in CT are regulated by the Tribal gaming commission BUT to maintain their license they must agree to use the gaming rules that apply in AC.  Of course, that doesn't keep them from having bad payouts on slots.  Also, they have to pay a certain percentage of gross slot revenue to CT.  Also, Mohegan Sun is still paying a hefty amount to the original developer through 2012.  Both Foxwoods and Mohegan had fantastic Video Poker paytables.  BUT, in the past year they have changed most of the machines.  Mohegan still has full pay pick-em and several 9/6 jacks.  Unlike State Lottery terminals, the VP in indian casinos are random.   But, I would think twice about spending too much on anything else.  Plus, the comps are NEVER as good at a indian casino.

I go to both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.  While at Mohegan last Saturday, I was amazed at all the hand payouts happening at the 50 cent level poker machines!!!!
I was playing at the quarter level, and had no luck.  I noticed that if you are a dollar level player, you get better odds on the poker machines.
I like to play at Foxwoods better, but they have now changed their poker/keno machines to pay even less, due to the cost of the new casino expansion, making all play a bad bet.

One of the reasons that you saw so many hand pays was that Mohegan does not allow the machine to accumulate over $500, it will automatically  lock up and require a hand pay if you have any hits $500 or over. This could occur more frequently at the .50 level.

I spent a night at the Harrah's Rincon back in October.  I really enjoyed it.  Hit my first royal there.  The action on the machines was good.  We stayed overnight and the rooms were really nice.  I am looking forward to going back some day.  I would definitely recommend it.
