Re: Suggestion for contest format

Webman, I think the new daily contest, will be a good thing, like I said, I miss the holiday themed contests and everyone wondering what the monthly was going to be. If you are trying for single hand contest for the monthly deal, why not change it up to single hand dreamcard or some of the others that aren't just the gameking offering. It is hard to get up and look at the same contest everyday for the monthly. Maybe I'm just missing the point of it. You have done a great job changing things up and expanding the contests to appeal to a greater number of members. I just don't like getting up and having cornflakes every morning ( the monthly contest) Seems more like an endurance race as opposed to a sprint

Thanks for the feedback as always. I also miss the themes to a degree... Turkey Tourney etc were my favorites, even though the game was the same. Maybe we can find a way to work that into the current format somehow. The reason we've stuck with Game King for the monthly so far is that it's just too darn good for that particular format in making it stand apart from our other contests in which a great hand can win the day. It's been a great race every month. The problem with just about any other game (like Dream Card) is you'll have one or two people who hit 5,6 or 7 royals in a day and you end up with that problem of it looking out of reach early on. Now we HAVE seen two royals on occasion in a day, but it's rare. Staying within striking distance until the last week keeps it interesting. There is no question it's a marathon and not a sprint like everything else. I realize it's not for everyone, and I'm fine with that as long as there is something else that they can enjoy. That doesn't mean we won't switch it up some day, but for now I think it's holding up well as far as participation.I suggest people take a month off from the Monthly Challenge and play the other contests if it's grinding on you and then when you feel up for it, jump in on the first of another month. We'll see how things go... there are a few other features on the way that will hopefully add to the enjoyment and competition for everyone, in addition to the return of Daily Contests in about a week. Thanks again everyone...

There is no shortage of material for a 'themed' contest, WebMan. Just trigger a voice-over of some of our 'favorite' posters' writings from here on Forum when you get a good hand in the contest. That would be entertaining...

The Monthly Contest is an EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT format because:

1) It is SINGLE LINE VP, so you do not need to rely on a huge, dealt hand to come out on top. A 4,000 point hand is a 4,000 hand whether it is dealt or redrawn, or anything in between. The integrity of the entire contest is that it is single line VP - and in its simplicity and its basic format.

2) The amount of hands, anywhere between 14,000 to 15,500 depending on the month is decent, but I would like to see the following change which would not limit people from having to play every single day or start at the beginning of the month:

Once you consent to play in the Monthly Contest, the player is given ALL of his/her hands up front regardless of part of the month they start playing.

Personally, I am attracted to 20,000 hands because it is about one half of a royal cycle, but 15,000 works for me just fine - the same number of hands that one would play in a 30-day month.

In order for the players to qualify for any prize, they must play ALL of the hands. When you start, your hand total is the 15K or 20K number I mentioned prior.

So if you have been playing 500 hands per day for 29 days in September, and on the 30th day you have to go to the ER and cannot play, you are not necessarily out of luck. It gives the player the freedom to play zero hands or 5,000 hands in one day.

Something to chew on from VPJ.

I think VPJ has a valid point. I like the idea of a set number of games to be played by the player when it fits their schedule the best. On the days that I am at the casino playing, I get enough video poker. The last thing I want to do after playing six to eight hours of video poker is go up to the room and get out my computer and play more video poker.

There are many reasons that people who want to compete in the monthly contests may find it inconvenient or in some cases impossible to do so. What would it hurt to try it that way for a month or two. Other than that, I think the monthly contests are fine the way they are.

I think my wife would be real happy if I could "bang out" 20K hands in about a week max and do some more laundry! :)

Getting bored with the contest format, would rather go back to earning points for a game rather than actual score.  If I can't get a 4000 point hand in the first week I give up.  Go back to the older formats or try a new one.  Please!

There are some great points here that we will take into consideration once we get past the 7 Star Tourney that's coming up. Thanks everyone.

This is a flawed statement. You are as likely to get a RF on the first hand as you are on the 15,500th hand.
