My take on this is that Taj is done. People are fleeing this place. Down 22.9% in Sept. Icahn wants too much from tax cuts and breaking union contracts. How about some concessions from him? Maybe cutting some executive perks or stop paying Donald for his name? Trump says he wants his name off anyway, so stop paying him, lol.
There is a silver lining to this cloud. Pokerstars is close to getting a license in NJ. I could see them rescue the property and become a hit in AC.That's great news about Pokerstars (finally....I guess the whole AC Club fiasco did not permanently damage them or turn them off....)   I think its safe to say the Taj is done, and it may shut down abruptly BEFORE November 13......I am still getting a crapload or promo mail from them, though, and they are at least ACTING like they are going to be around for a while longer......If they file bankruptcy again, is it possible they could reopen using NON-union workers?  Is this the possible strategy the Icahn team is using as a last option, to get the courts to declare them Protected and nullify the Union contract???     I  understand the intransigence of the UNION, but understanding the intractability of Management is a little more obscure????   what am I missing here/??You are spot on about the Executive compensation though......that has not come out (surprisingly) in the papers (I have found the AC Press is decidedly PRO Casino Management), but it is apparently well known amongst the casino workers (the Union would no doubt have access to this info)  that Trump continued to pay its executives obscene bonuses even during its worst performances......hardly something that ONLY the casino industry is guilty of, but still......galling to say the least.

Both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun profits are way down for September. Foxwoods worse. They have huge debt and imo a poorer run ship. The line employees seem to be baring the brunt of things. Somehow, the execs always make out in these situations. I see what is happening in Ct. as a mini version of Atlantic City. Hope I am wrong. Seems like the higher up the ladder you go, the dumber they get and or greedy. You pick which one applies. The line employees have some great ideas. Most often, their suggestions fall on deaf ears.

So the bankruptcy judge ruled in favor of tearing up the union contract that Mr. Icahn wanted torn up. Next up is working on the concessions from the city and state.

This is not good. Contracts mean nothing. Anything that lowers profits is at risk. Not a good time to keep comps stored. Use them or lose them.

Wow.....how come the Union 54 Rep Prez, this Mcdevitt guy, NEVER addresses this issue:   "In light of the fact that the Taj Mahal was going to close ANYWAY on November 13, and your union members/employees would then have NO job with NO healthcare of any type, how is this current situation, whereby you will at least KEEP your current jobs and will have access to insurance with Obamacare that includes $2k from the company to help your employees BUY it, so intolerable???!?!?!?!"If he can answer that and provide a sensible and logical rationale, then I will resume being a decidedly PRO Union gambler.    For now, I remain decidedly in the middle, favoring neither side in this awful smelly mess.   I think BOTH sides are selfish, irrational, greedy idiots.....As for the actual Casino itself, I had scheduled some time in November to be at the Taj since they keep sending a lot of comp offers and freebies.....I am trying to incorporate possibly staying in AC either before or after a trip to Vegas, whereby I fly in and out of Philadelphia, or just have it be part of another stand alone AC trip.    But you really have to wonder about just what will the casino experience now be like with all these pissed  off employees????    I mean, they were willing to sabotage the convention plans of numerous other organizations who regularly came to the TAJ year after year.....the Union was willing to SHUTDOWN traffic into and out of the main part of Atlantic City, inconveniencing untold hundreds, perhaps thousands, or innocent civilians just going about their lives.....what's to stop them from making customers like me miserable and pissed in order to "strike back" at the evil management upstairs???And boobert, yes its smart to use up any excessive or saved up comps at casinos that exhibit the least little inkling of trouble.......prior to my last AC visit I had over $300 comp dollars at Trump (I never allow it to get that high normally but there had been so many offers lately the comps just grew and grew).....I used a large portion of them on a offer to turn them into slot play at 2 to 1, and now my balance is under 40 bucks.

So would a person rather be a "pissed off person with a JOB: or a "pissed off person without a job?"   As for asking: "what's to stop them from making customers like me miserable and pissed in order to "strike back" at the evil management upstairs?" Well one answer is logical; this would open the worker up to a disciplinary process which could lead up to firing. If they are terminated for cause it would mean the loss of unemployment benefits.

Oh ok   I didnt think of that......I'd like to live in your world Ted, where everything is so predictable and logical, and everyone ALWAYS does what they are supposed to and NO ONE ever deviates or breaks any rules or acts in a irrational or self destructive manner, or acts impetuously out of anger.....and where ALL wrongdoers or criminals ALWAYS perpetrate their deeds in such a way that they are always caught and punished....    That'd be swell......
