One or more of us may be buying a new car soon since I think over the next year or so prices will be coming down and maybe even some rebate deals. I looked back on the years I purchased a new car. We were either in a recession ir going into one. The Fed announced today that we are probably going into one very soon. As if we aren’t in one already. Anyway, the years of my new vehicles were 1973, late 1979, 1981, 1983, 1991, late 2005, late 2019. All the purchases involved big discounts and or big rebates. Hyundai is still begging me to trade my 2019 Elantra, but they are still selling over sticker and no rebates. So far so good with mine. Already 94,000 miles. Most likely will get another one when the dealers come back down to earth. I don’t like the style of the new ones though. Will have to wait and see. Ford is expected to lose over 3 billion dollars making the new electric pickups.

I have been playing the used car market for the last 4-1/2 years. Buying Plug In Hybrids in places where they are plentiful, due to CAFE standards, and selling them where they are not available.
Actually got started with the one I totaled hitting a deer. Insurance paid far more than it cost me to replace it with a Mfr. discount and fed. tax credit of $9502. Have been thru 7 vehicles and made money on all. With Mfr. discounts as high as $5000 and fed. tax credits as high as $7500. My wifes is free and mine is 75% covered. If we sold them both today we would be ahead a ton and have had apx. 200,000 miles of free vehicle use.
Sad to say the party is over. Fed. tax credit went away and no Mfr. discount
Did better on Cars than I did on VP.
BTW a PHEV is the best of both worlds. Thru the week, for 5-6 days, I burn no gas. Our 2 days casino trip is 210 miles with about half on gas (free charge at the casino, WHAT A COUNTRY!)
But if I head to Florida It's gas all the way at 38 Mpg. No charge neurosis.

Great business savvy. If I risk getting run off the road at 60 mph in my Elantra, I can coax 54 mpg out of it. All gas. However, most times it is 75 mph on Ct I 95 or I 395. It still gives me 44.5 at that speed. I couldn’t be happier. Hope I didn’t just jinx it. I wasn’t going to go tonight, but the taxes are finally all done and I need a break. Our room is still there till 1 pm tomorrow. Be safe out there. The lunatics in the roads are everywhere. Even local roads. Sometimes I wish I had a pair of 50 cals mounted on the hood.

Just pulled into the casino and parked the Elantra. This is what she gave me on the trip up here averaging 70 mph.

That is super for that speed. Elantra's are very nice looking solid quality rides. One of my grandkids had one for 3-4 years and sold it for what he paid for it.
Mine is a heavier AWD SUV. At 70 mph about 38. 42 on two lane at60.

Market mercifully unchanged today. I just paid my taxes and need a few positive sessions in the style and substance of our resident high roller from the Windy City.

Picked up a new one today. PEAK. REIT. Bought mostly for the over 5 percent dividends. Haven’t owned reits in years, but used to do well with them. If I can pull another 10 percent out of it, will sell and run. It’s been beaten up lately like lots of stuff

Sounds sound. My firm sold off a slice of stocks last week for more bond weight. I had two of the worst five S&P stocks yesterday. I didn’t even seek this out. Just happened to see a chart of the bottom ten. Yeah.

Very nervous about the market for all of 2023. Bonds have been really beaten up. I own some too. My biggest holding seems to be creeping back up. FHIGX. Non taxable Dividends for Federal. In hindsight, I wish I dumped it and ran Dec 2021.
