After years of being burned whenever a machine malfunctions, it finally went the other way for me. I sat down at a multi-game machine and selected five play STP. I started off in DDB and on the very first hand I received a multiplier. Then, to my amazement, the same multiplier continued to come up on every hand.
I didn't waste much time moralizing, because that particular casino is way ahead of me. But I did worry that the malfunction was going to quickly draw the attention of an attendant or a suit or the eye in the sky. I switched to deuces with the thought of avoiding any handpays and removed my card. Once in deuces, the credits started piling up fast. I cashed out several times but the multiplier never went away.
Finally, after my 5th cash out, I realized that a player several seats down from me was staring at me. Obviously, he figured out that I was doing something dicey. I cashed out my last ticket and left, sweating all the time. The cash redemption machine did not give me any trouble, paid me fully for all five tickets.
But walking to my car as casually as I could, I kept looking behind me, expecting to see a casino guard chasing after me. I am almost afraid to return to that particular casino. But I have to admit, it is nice to finally be on the positive side of a malfunction!
Malfunctioning machine goes my way...for a change

Chicagoan, you weren't doing something dicey, the machine was.

You don't have anything to worry about unless the machine had a quite noticeable sticker stating something to the effect of "This Super Times Pay game presents a random multiplier on average every 15 hands. Should you receive a multiplier on average more often than that, the machine is malfunctioning and any payouts will not be honored."
In other words, the casino cannot legally expect a player to have knowledge of how often the multiplier should occur. The burden is on the casino to prove that the player was aware of a malfunction, deliberately took advantage of the malfunction, and unjustly enriched himself.
That said, I'm curious --- how much did you make off with?

Its random so you can get the 5x multiplier hand after hand after hand. The math says it is possible so it is.

I personally would have turned the sound down and played for a while. If, that is, if I played STP.

Waiting4RF, that was my thought. No matter how unlikely it was mathematically possible for it to happen.
Rascal, $3825 on 5 play quarters in about 40 minutes. I have had higher win days but it took a lot longer.

Wonder what the other player did. Call an attendant or jump in. I suspect the latter.
