There are many people who profit playing positive video poker. They are not on tv like poker players so you never hear about them.

It is not rocket science. Play as perfect as possible. Play where you have an advantage and have the right bankroll. Also you need discipline.

Dancer does not say people have to play in the high limit room to have success. I believe you have read the book. I suggest you read it again.

Dancers message is:
Play with an edge
Learn the proper strategy
Have the proper bankroll
Understand comps and promotions at the casino you are
playing at

I can see I am wasting my time beating a dead horse.   I'm sorry if I bored anyone.Think about my posts the next time you read a tread promoting $5 VP as profitable.  Ask yourself, would this encourage anyone to overspend their finances?   Who profits the most when dollar players move up to $5 play to gain an edge?  The casinos maybe? The next time someone states that professional gamblers are more intelligent than you, ask yourself why he would say such a thing.   Would this make anyone think they are more intelligent if they gamble more?   Who profits from this?  The casinos maybe?Do you really want your daughter's husband, the father of your grand kid's sitting in a casino all night waiting for a royal flush?  No one profits from this.   The biggest losers are your daughter and her children.I promote quarter play because I want to help players lose less money, not more.  Sure, most quarter VP odds are less than positive, but the overall loss is much less.  I know this doesn't make me popular on this forum.    I'll do my best to keep my thoughts to myself.  If you want to take some final swings at me, go for it.  I'm tired of fighting this fight.  Gambling is a lot like fishing.  It's fun when you are sitting on the bank with your toes in the water.   When you are 50 miles offshore with a 20 foot great white at the back of the boat, it's not so entertaining.

Phil, believe it or not, not all VP players are gambling addicts like you, who have to play no matter what the paytable. AP's are much more judicious in their game selection.

This is what separates the long-term winners from the long-term losers. This is precisely why casinos welcome you and your wife with open arms, as you say.

Phil
Again you do not have to play $5 games to be profitable. You can do the same on .25 games as long as you have an edge. I am not talking about living off your income from gambling, but rather saying you can finish ahead by playing with a positive edge.

If you plan on playing VP and living off the income then yes it would take higher stakes.

Arrive small, play small, likely leave small. Casino will be there next time.

Google shows two definitions for addict.  "A person who is addicted to a particular substance, typically an illegal drug."and"An enthusiastic devotee of a specified thing or activity."I don't drink, smoke or do drugs.  I plead guilty to the second one.To me an addict is someone who can not stop an activity on his/her own free will.  This injury to my wife is giving me the opportunity to find out if I can stay out of the casino.   So far I don't miss it.If I ever go back to a casino, I should return to single quarter play.  I'll lose a lot less and I won't have to concern myself with 100% games, comps and beating the casinos.  My loses will be "chump change" and I can smile as I walk by the $5 players as they feed their own addictions.

Cold turkey is your current gambling method now. I hope your wife recovers to her full health quickly.

Thank you.   She is doing much better, but she has a long road to recovery ahead of her.  Her left knee cap was removed and her right arm is broken.   Her doctors say she will be OK, but it will take some time.   She is strong and healthy for a 71 year old.   She is also strong-willed, which comes in handy when you are married to me for 53 years.    Every day is a little improvement.  Thank God she's still with me.  I met my wife when she was 15 years old.   We married right out of high school and she was involved in all my businesses and my hobbies.  Separated we weren't that formidable.  Together we were a force to be reckoned with.   A relationship like we have is a gift from God himself.  I wouldn't trade all the Royals in the world for her.
