When Will the Casinos Reopen?

Re: When Will the Casinos Reopen?

Post by FloridaPhil »

We received a letter from the Florida Hard Rock casinos yesterday. They say our comps, free play and points will remain intact as long as they remain closed. No word of when they will reopen.

We have been thinking about how this might happen. They could shut down every other slot machine to enforce six foot social distancing. This might be harder on table games. I have no clue how they will ever open Disney. They could charge $1,000 a ticket. That would cut the number of visitors for sure.

if its was up to me, i would re-open everything, freedom of choice made us americans i feel less american each day and more like russia with this force of shut down. i used to live in a world where politics didn't affect me, now they do, now i fear for the collapse of usa w/o tax money paying the way what other direction are we going?
I largely agree with your core premise that Freedom is, rightly so, the predominant value in normal times.
However, even then, freedom is not an absolute. We are never free to infringe on the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of any other citizen. Think of the classic example of not having the right to falsely yell FIRE in a crowded theater. Or not having the right to wantonly run over someone who breaks the law and steps in the way of your vehicle while you have the right-of-way.

Consider these constraints, when thinking of the restrictions that are in place today.
Does someone, sick with the virus have, the right to freely associate and knowingly spread it to others?
Of course not! Restriction to quarantine is the right thing to do.
The governor of MI. has overstepped the bounds of reason in restrictions. For instance telling my lawn care guy that he cannot come and mow my grass. Is that the right thing to do?
Of course not!

Are we on a slippery slope here? Are possible precedents being set for future infringement on personal freedom?
When considering these questions, another one comes to mind. Who is making these decisions?
The answer is, a group/profession with an approval rating well below used car salesmen, POLITICIANS!!

My lawn is still being mowed. The Michigan Governor is running for unelection. It's a good thing because she was on Biden's list for VP. That's all we need.

Tech 58, comparing a politician to a used car salesman is an insult to used car salespeople everywhere.

I just read this.

Nevada-based full-time professional gamblers could be eligible for unemployment benefits after losing their opportunity to work as a consequence of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Las Vega Review-Journal reported.

What are the odds anyone saw this coming? At least those $1,200 government checks won't be put to waste in a casino.

I humbly apologize to used car salesmen every where. Not your profession is it? :)

I apologize to professional gamblers everywhere. If any need a loan to pay their rent, message me and I will quote you odds on getting one. The people I feel sorry for are the restaurant, personal care and theme park workers. They most likely don't have any savings to speak of, they may have kids, they don't know when they may go back to work. They are facing a real tragedy. We need to find a way to open them back up even if it means only allowing a few customers in at a time.

Phil, why don't you leave talk of professional gamblers out of the recreational play forum?

No, I have never sold cars, new or used. I have a degree in accounting but decided to pursue a career in sales early on so I would not have to work so hard to make my fortune. Along the way I discovered you can make a lot more money owning the business rather than working for somebody else. Little did I know that you would have to put in all the hours I was trying to avoid by not directly using my accounting degree. In the end it paid off. I still admire and have a healthy respect for professional salespeople everywhere.

Phil, are you mowing your lawn or do you have a service do it? If you have a service do it, that service is not on the list of workers deemed essential and they should not be out on the street working right now.

And I know that you will answer that you do it so this post by me is merely an exercise.
