Why I Play VP my Way

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

Ted, I am not trying to sell anything.   I am explaining why some players play single coin.  That's all there is and nothing more. I don't care how anyone plays.  What I object to is when forum members tell others they are stupid or worse because they choose to play more hands with their own money.  If someone chooses to accept a $62.50 royal so they can play 5 times as many hands, so what? Most of today's low denomination video poker games are seriously negative.   So negative in fact that timely royals will not keep you from losing.  Some players have figured this out and have consciously made the decision to limit their losses by playing ultra cheap.  No matter how you do the math, the house edge on 25 cents is less than it is on $1.25.The big negative of playing short coin is the effect on comps.  Playing single coin quarters is death on free play and points.  For that reason alone I choose to play max coins the majority of the time.   Some players don't care or are not aware of comps, so for them playing cheap  saves them money.  If you don't think so, sit down with $50 and play 8/5 DDB at max coin quarters.  Count up how many hands you can play before you bust.  Then do the same thing with single coin quarters.  It's ridiculous to think that playing max coins on a game like that is better. Now you can come up with all kinds of scenarios where a player may hit 4 royals in 30 minutes or something just as strange.  I might find a Genie in a bottle too, but I don't think my wish would be to win a game of video poker.

I haven't seen a RF in 1.5 years. Even on a barely negative 99.5% game, I will hold my fire. Discretion is the better part of valor. Has nobody ever learned this basic maxim? DB? Bueller? Today was the exception. The RF Progressive is $1,325. I was grinding away with the other five drones on the bank. More aggressive max bets. I hit one quad, then moved and hit another before cashing out.

Choose your pain, death of a thousands cuts or a beheading!    If you want to buy royal insurance by playing max coins, go for it.  No one is stopping you.I play max coins most of the time because they give me free rooms and food, not because I'm afraid of hitting a single coin royal   Two nights in Miami is worth at least $250 a night.  They don't even charge me for taxes and parking.   If I play single coin quarters they will forget my name faster than you can drink a free Margarita.

Further proof that casinos fear phils fantastical cheap strategy. If they didn't fear it so, why else wouldn't they comp him? Hmmm. Anyone?

None of you [and me] are winning, nor have we ever won at videopoker.....why???.....because we're still playing, and playing, and playing, and playing......You are either ahead, or behind----in the moment----according to honest accounting of time, enrgy, expenses---within what given time period---before or after taxes.....

Part [if not most] of many players' "fun" [fantasy] in playing vp--is to pretend that you are expertly playing/winning.....Just be careful about imposing your expert fantasies onto others that are honestly/clearly trying to teach/warn others about basic pitfalls of gambling.....Be careful of what---and to what end, if any---all of you keep ranting about....

they didn't fear it so, why else wouldn't they comp him? Hmmm. Anyone?[/quote]The fact is the casino gives me comps when I play max coins and none when I play single coin.   Why do they do this?   Because they know the more money I run through their machines and the more hands I play, the more money they make.  They discourage me from playing single coin quarters because they don't make enough money to pay for the machine. We go to the casino to be entertained.  On any given day, my wife and I have choices.  We can go to lunch and a movie, maybe visit some friends or go to the casino.   The only difference is the casino visit may cost us $300.  We don't go to make money or prove anyone right or wrong.  All we want is a good time and a chance to walk out with a little money.  Some days that money comes from playing max coins and other days it comes from single coin play.   It doesn't matter to us what happens as long as we feel good when we walk out.A few forum members have dreams of making their fortunes as professional gamblers.  We wish them well.  We already made ours and don't need anything now except good health and good friends.   I am sure there are lots of retired forum members who feel like we do, but are afraid to post because someone will insult them off the forum.  We need to stop this activity.   VP is a big tent.  This forum should be big enough to cover every player and every strategy.
