The Video Poker random generator (RNG).

Post by BillWFord »

Bob Dancer or others.

Here is what I do not understand.

After the RNG has generated a 52 card random card deck and given you the first 5 cards, why does it then start randomly shuffling the remaining 47 cards, stopping when you hit the “deal” button ??? Why doesn’t it just use the next 5 cards in the original 52 cards random deck to give you your final cards ??? Reshuffling the remaining 47 cards doesn’t make it anymore random than the original 47 cards.

The internet is a great resource. Looking things up is easy using Google.    Chapter 1.3     https://www.888casino.com/blog/video-po ... ackground/

Constantly shuffling the other 47 cards while waiting for you to hit draw increases game security. If anyone can predict the draw cards by a flaw in the software would have a significant advantage. These factors make constant shuffling between the deal and draw now the law in Nevada.

Makes good sense. It certainly would make it harder for some hacker to foil the system.

Thanks.

On another forum (it is one in which Bob Dancer publishes a column online), there is a daily "Question of the Day."

A couple days ago, someone asked about the RNG, and what happens when you hit deal and get your first five cards.

I kid you not, readers: people suggested that (a) since the RNG is constantly shuffling cards, that you can be dealt your discards on the draw. Yes, they argue that if you discard, say, the 7 and 8 of spades, you can get those exact cards back on the draw. In other words, the deck is shuffling 50 cards now (because you saved two out of five on the deal)
(b) or, alternatively, that there is no RNG, but a computer program which pre=determines both your cards on the deal and also on the draw.

Bob Dancer did not respond to any of these comments in the Q of the D.

I never look at LVA's QOD. If a subject concerns video poker, I usually get an email from Anthony Curtis asking me if I care to comment. Often I do. If I don't get such an email, I don't read that site. Otherwise, I look at a number of sites, but that's not one on my radar. You just have to pick and choose.I'm just glad that conditions here have changed sufficiently that I feel comfortable and useful posting here.

VP strategy is based on you drawing from 47 cards.
Your decision is sometimes influenced by what you discard. It's what penalty cards are all about, as well as the power of the pack.

My problem with it is that the "law" says the RNG should behave exactly like a live game of poker. When I play Draw poker with friends by buddy isn't sitting there shuffling the deck the whole time while we decide how many cards to draw.
