I used to bring a briefcase full of hundred dollar bills, but my back issues made it a little much to carry so I had to switch it to twenties.
My nutty friend plays 100 dollar machines. He only
goes every couple of
weeks. He has pretty good discipline and only plays slots. When he wins
he quits and is actually doing pretty well this year.  You can imagine how many w-2Gs he gets and usually has a slot attendant stationed right near his machine.
Slots pay
better than some VP players believe.  Theoretical odds don't have as much influence on a typical casual player's results as sitting in the
right seat at the right time.  Lately we have been breaking up the
action alternating between VP and slot play.  We are both doing well and our comps have doubled.State
taxes can be a big deal.  In Mississippi the
tax is 3% right off the top.   6% is insane.  In Florida we don't have State income tax or gambling taxes.  I suppose you could make a case that we have a better edge?  In a game with tiny edges, the State taxing your winnings has to figure into your strategy.

I agree 100% Phil. In fact, over the last couple of months, my return on vp is only in the 90% range. That is mostly due to a lack of Royals, quad deuces, or 5 of a kinds on joker kings. I can't even remember the last time I got a royal playing on job. Though the new animated machines are fun, I think I am going to mix up my play with the old tried and true machines like my nutty friend plays though play them at the quarter level. Also, after writing the State a big check last April and probably another one this April, I in the interim am definitely going to modify my strategy. Especially since my state one of the richest in the nation continues to squander taxpayer money and they are running a huge deficit. That said, what I can do for now, is continue to play that lone dollar machine that pays the correct amount for the Royal for bet 1. That will give my 800 bucks. If I play DDS, and hit dealt quad deuces with 5 quarters bet, that is a grand and also avoids the dreaded W-2G. Its just not right to tax taxpayers on gross gambling winnings without the ability to offset losses. To me its the same if I bought a hundred shares of B&G Pickles today for say 3 grand and decide tomorrow that I really didn't want to own that stock. I sell the stock for the same 3 grand and then get taxed on the entire 3 grand though I made nothing. Of course that is not the current tax law, but the theory as it relates to gambling winnings is the same in my book. This will be the last year that I write a big check for our horrible governor that is for sure. PS....the state legislature isn't much better.

wildman did you and your wife have any luck on your recent excursion? Did you notice all the new machines at Four Winds? Ted we had a change in plans due to my wife's bankroll got hit hard at Soaring Eagle. We did not make the trip south to 4 Winds.I held my own and left there after 4 days dead even. I should be happy but after 17 four to the royal off the deal and behind in royals for the year just wanted one on this four day trip.On the flip side hit 13 straight flush's. Hit 2 four deuces in DW four $500 each that helped me stay even.

Three SFs per day is quite a bounty. Granted, you play like a wild man. I hit my first SF in 3.5 months yesterday. I sure needed it; down $100 at Harrah's, then $150 blessing. So relieved.

I used to have set bankrolls for the game and denomination I was playing. Like $250-$300 for quarter deuces wild games, $400-$500 for quarter DDB, $500 for quarter deuces triple play. But lately whatever is in my wallet is usually my bankroll. My last session I was lucky to have $600 on quarter single line DDB for my two quad aces hit, one with a kicker, came at the end. If I just had $400-$500 it would of been gone. But instead, was up $85.
