I wish casinos would do this

Post by olds442jetaway »

I can understand casinos wanting you to play 5 quarters to get paid the correct amount for the Royal, but if I ran one, I would pay the correct amount for bet 1 on a dollar machine. Hitting a Royal at bet 1 would be a nice 800 buck payout or 940 on Joker Kings, no W-2G and possibly lure people into playing 2,3,4,or even 5 bucks at a time. So many of the dollar machines go un played where I play, I just can't understand their thinking. Actually, I cannot understand their thinking on most things. Working 35 years with and trying to save businesses and being retired 15 and seeing what makes businesses tick and what makes them fail etc. is clear to me, but evidently not clear to many casinos. If a restaurant raises prices, cuts quality and portions, you can guarantee that restaurant will be gone in six months and on and on. In my opinion, the casinos are lucky to have such a captive audience otherwise most of them would be out of business. All of that said, Mohegan Sun has one dollar machine that pays 800 for bet one for the Royal, but to add insult to injury, it is a 9/5 machine for job instead of 9/6. Therefore, I never play job on that machine when I can play a quarter machine at 9/6 for bet 5. I guess casinos rely on ignorance of most vp players. I see so many people either pay no attention to paytables at all or play vp like they would play cards at home.

Next to the 4 QQ machines at Harrahs AC there is a bandk off 12 .25c slot machines that no one ever plays. On weekends when the big 7* players come to town it is virtually impossible to get on a QQs machine. A bank of 100 play QQs machines would be constantly full, with 90% of the players totally clueless as to what they are playing.

A few years back one of our smaller Racinos offered $1 video poker games without the royal penalty.  As I recall they started at 800 coins for one coin all the way to 4,000 coins for five.   They made a big deal out of it at the time in their advertising calling themselves "The VP Capital" or something similar.  We used to play CS dollars there and it was great.  Unfortunately, it didn't last long.   I don't think it was because the game was unprofitable for the casino.  I think it was because most players didn't understand the benefit.  Another thing that never caught on in Florida was the higher than five coin max bet.  I played one machine that had a 100 coin max bet once by accident.  Thankfully I hit a straight and moved on as quickly as I could. The dollar machines in the casinos in Florida are never busy.  If they removed the royal bonus, I would play them all them time and gain the better odds.  They don't for a reason.  Max coin dollar play makes a lot more money for the casino because players are running five times the money through them.  The games are still negative so there is always someone who is hoping for a big hit to play them.  If you want to play all by yourself, saunter up to a $5 machine in Florida.Retirees watch their money closely and as soon as they find themselves in front of a dollar machine they leave.   In Coconut Creek, one of the newest casinos in our area, you can never get a seat at the nickel machines as they are always full.  Players who play for fun want more hands for their money.  They are not there to beat the machines.  They are there to get as much entertainment as possible and don't care about odds as long as they can play and not run out of money before they have to leave.  I don't play nickels because a $200 royal isn't fun for me.I think the nickel machines are great for those folks.  At least they don't have the pain of watching a $62.50 royal.

A one coin royal on dollars would normally pay 250 dollars. So if you want it to pay 800 for one coin you must lower another part of the pay table to make up for the difference. Hence why you saw 9-5 JOB instead of 9-6. It all works out the same.

olds, one of our favorites in La. still pays 800 for single coin RF. I guess I should play some $5/single coin machines.
