Gambling authors / system sellers?

Post by stevel96a1 »

I read in in several blackjack books to never purchase a system. But today you can google/youtube all kinds of systems. Anyhthing from the frankinstein to the chuck temple. I never purchase a system but do any of these system work? Succeed ? Or is it just 1 big shop selling false hope? Also did anyone buy john patricks videos or books?

Yep, my system works. It was sold to me by a Nigerian prince. For a small sum, I can cut you in on it.

Seriously, if you are talking about using money management systems on games where there is a house edge (after comps and other promotions were considered), if any system worked, changes would need to occur both at the casinos … and in the theory of mathematics. If there is a player edge, then lots of systems works.

It comes down to this. If the expected edge is negative to you, then playing the game will come down to an expectation that is some positive multiple of a negative number (i.e., the negative edge), which means the product has to be a negative expectation.

The Wizard of Odds used to have an open guarantee that a system could not work or he would payoff. I think he got tired of the nuisance value of trying to prove that systems could not work, but maybe the details are still out in cyberspace somewhere.

I don't believe there is any such thing as a can't lose gambling system. That said, by playing the best games the best way and taking advantage of comps you can get pretty close. The real problem comes if you try to make that strategy fund your lifestyle. It's one thing to enjoy free beers and dog grooming and another thing to count on gambling to fund your retirement or buy a house.

In my career in real estate I have seen people turn from selling real estate into selling systems. Selling systems is a lot easier and more lucrative. All you need is a technical sounding get rich scheme and enough willing customers to buy your programs. These books are full of mathematical formulas and how this system is going to make you rich. Walk into an airport book store and look in the business section. There you will see books on how to get rich flipping houses or using your mortgage as a rich uncle. People buy these books by the thousands. You can get rich flipping houses, but you need more than a book.

The most successful team I ever met in that business was a husband and wife. The wife is a hard working Realtor and the husband is a contractor. They had all sides of the business covered. We travel with them on occasion and they aren't hurting for money. They didn't buy a book to learn what they do and they aren't writing any books either. They are too busy making money.

I think all video poker players should read everything they can get their hands on about video poker. I think you can learn a lot from someone else's theories even if they don't hold water. After you read all those books and buy those systems, at least you can make an informed decision on what's best for you, not someone else.
