For Ct. players, if anyone cares

I have scoured both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods recently looking for the best pay table machines that still pay points that you can spend. This is what I found and I'm pretty sure it is correct unless I missed something or they have made changes in the last week or so. If you want points that you can spend other than tier points and want to play games over 99 percent, you have to go to Foxwoods. They still have 99.54 job at the dollar level that earn points that you can spend. The downside is I haven't found any 99 percent games at Foxwoods at the quarter level at all. Mohegan Sun has plenty of quarter 99 percent games, but they all earn only tier points. If anyone else has found something different, please post it here, so I can take advantage of it too. I used to carry around 9000 points at Mohegan Sun, but when they changed the rules back in 2011 and I still wanted to play quarter games, I really paid the price. I am now running almost on empty. The points used to pay for my gas every trip and a nice dinner too. The best I can figure and it is only a rough estimate is that both casinos give you free play in the .3 to .5 percent range. That combined with the earned points you can spend at Foxwoods could make you either an Advantage Player or at worst a break even player at the dollar level. Of course that is based on long term results and there is no guarantee how long long term will be for you. If you value tier status besides points you can spend, the free rooms, meals, and shows at Mohegan Sun can put you in a similar level for non cash total return.
I tend to just value things like a cash equivalent. In other words, free play to me is just like money out of my pocket. Free gas the same since I have to buy it anyway. To get the maximum benefit though at Foxwoods, you have to have a huge bankroll and budget to play at the dollar level all of the time and reap all of their rewards. Right now, I just don't have the discipline perfected yet to do that so the bulk of my play is still at Mohegan Sun at the quarter level. It also shaves 20 minutes off my drive and in general, I like the employees at Mohegan Sun and the type of patrons better there too.

Deciding what you want from VP can be difficult. You can play quarters, limit your coin in to limit your losses and accept the quarter odds as part of the game or you can play dollars and lose more to earn more comps. In the long run which one turns out better depends on the cards that come up when you play. I suspect it's not the odds or the comps that are drawing you to the bigger machines. I suspect you enjoy hitting big bigger jackpots.

For me this would be a no brainier. I would keep my money in the bank and stay with quarters at the Mohegan Sun. You may decide differently. That's what makes us individuals.

The VP decision making process involves odds, comps and human factors. We are not all computers.

Thanks for the info. I had reservations at Mohegan Sun for Mon, Tues, Wed, next week, but had to cancel today due to a sinus infection. I was trying to decide whether to play slots, 4 card keno, or vp. I haven't played vp for a long time so I was practicing DW/JOB. DW is a more exciting game and the strategy is simpler, imo. Is the payback that much less for DW than JOB at Mohegan? When you say 99% payback, do you mean the 9/6 quarter machines?

One time I was playing video poker in AC with a cheat sheet on my lap and one of the male casino employees interrupted my playing by making some excuse about checking the machine, I quickly put the paper into my purse and he nodded his head, I knew that's what he really wanted. He looked like a security type, dressed in a suit. I really don't understand why roulette players are allowed to sit there and take notes, but I couldn't have my cheat sheet, oh well.

I tried the slots at Foxwoods so many times and never won anything, so I prefer Mohegan. The last times I was there I hit the $1 WOF for $400 on the wheel in The Sky casino, hit a $5 machine in the high stakes area for $500 on the second spin and hit the $1 WOF in The Earth for another $400. I don't play the $1 WOF in The Earth any longer because they changed some dollar amounts on the wheel to free spins, screw that! I never play at Mohegan at night, I find the slots payout better between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Whenever I played at night I lost.

If you find the strategy for DW easier than JOB, I suspect you are doing something wrong.
Which variant of the game are you studying?

The free trainer from the Wizrd of Odds, that's Shackelford I think. There's only about 10 or 12 DW plays to remember, on JOB there are several more. I get a high percentage of hands correct on JOB, but I'm far from perfect, I notice I make the same mistakes when I don't understand the logic behind the recommended play and why it's the better percentage play than the one I picked.

Besides, if I am playing a variant JOB, then I have to worry about the kickers and what to do with them, DW is easier.

If you're playing a "variant JOB" that has kickers, you're playing something that most folks would not refer to as JOB.

True Jacks or Better is easier than Deuces, in my opinion.

If you mean things like Double Double Bonus (DDB), and Triple Double Bonus (TDB), that's different.

As for kickers, you never hold them in DDB, but you always do in TDB.

Anyone who believes they can play deuces wild 100% computer perfect for two hours straight should buy a copy of Video Poker for Winners software and test themselves. I am sure there are a few members who could pass the test, but not as many who think they can. I think it would be a great test to put up a deuces wild game just to see if any non professional players can do it. Give them a prize if they pull it off.
