The Ultimate Low Roller

Post by onemoretry »

The four 50 line machines at Harrahs Laughlin all have 5c and 10c denomination. Two of them also have 1c and 2c.

The maximum wager on these machines is $25. My wife and I usually play full play nickels for half of that.

The other day, a gentleman who was playing there was not exactly betting the max. He was playing the 1c denomination, one line, one credit per line, for a total wager of 1c. He has my nomination as the ultimate low roller.

lol Hey give him credit, he found a way to hang out in the casino without loitering, and I'm sure the waitress was attentive to him etc. Was it hot and humid outside?

In AC CET casinos on 3-5-10 machines with 5 cent denom, you can play 1 line, 1 credit for 5 cents a hand....I don't know if the 1 cent games allow what you saw, next time I pass thru I'll try and note.

Jeter would know for sure

Unless a machine has a "minimum bet" setting, I think you can always bet one credit on one line. I think I've seen it done once by someone else for a single penny.

It is a sure fire way to get drunk for cheap if that's your goal.

I'm cheap, but not that cheap! I traditionally bet 36 cents (6 lines of 6 cents each) on 100 play STP machines to be a "cheap" drunk.

the weird thing is, in CET casinos in AC many do indeed have a "minimum bet" ==== usually a dollar or so....

hey u found a play! bet one penny per spin drink free liquor, must be positive expected value.this is already used at a.c. and probably many other casinos.probably not healthy unless moderation is employed.

I have seen this a few times myself with nickels. It's a great way to kill time. Having played around with cheap play for so many years, I have more experience with this than most. You need to play big enough so the more common jackpots mean something to you. If they don't, you will lose interest. For me that's $100, so I like to play single coin 50 cent deuces wild.

There are a few advantages in my case. Cutting the bet down from $1.25 a hand to 50 cents reduces my coin in which reduces my cost to play. The 50 cent single coin odds are better than the max coin quarter odds at my casino. When I hit a wild royal, I get 125 coins instead of 100 and a 5-of-a-kind pays 75 coins instead of 60.

I also like to switch to max coins after a run up and switch back at my minimum. This usually costs me money. At the end of a day's play, it keeps me even most of the time. On rare occasion, I hit a max coin jackpot and I go home a big winner. There is no math behind this, I do it because I like to.

At the present time, I only play max coins when the comps have value to me or the odds are over 99%. For example, the Hollywood Hard Rock has quarter 8/5 Bonus poker and we get comped rooms, drinks and food.

There are many ways you can change the game to fit your personal entertainment goals. That's what I like about VP. It's much better than watching Buffalo run across the screen while my wallet drains.

I recently indulged in Bally's 9/6 JOB; gun shy about hitting max. They switched the machines to ten coin max! But what a nice hand pay dream when I do max. Should I switch over here next door? Even with this slick maneuver, they respect my BR much more than Caesars, which demands $5 for a RF hand pay, which is my goal.
