Repeat business haaa. In 1973, I bought my first new vehicle. A beautiful new maroon ford pickup. Less than 3000 bucks. Unfortunately, it was at the height of poor quality coming out of detroit. When I i got it home, the carb had leaked gas all over the engine. The clutch and leaf spring broke the first year. 3 steering wheels cracked as well and the timing chain went at 49000 miles due to cheap fiber gears. And on and on. I have never bought another ford since. So in 1979 I tried a new black beauty camaro z28. Something in the engine wasnt made correctly and the rear main seal was replaced 4 times in the first year. It leaked as soon as the dealer replaced it. Dumped it with 13000 miles on it. Needless to say i have never bought another chevy. Something well made may not get replaced as often but word of mouth does wonders for new business. Both gm and ford lost over 40 years of my business with the exception of my saturn that i still have and actually bought used . I guess that was made too good as gm lost money on them and dumped them too. Every new car I have bought since the 1970s has been due to word of mouth referrals. I see unfortunately vp heading down the same path. Cutting here and there etc. Maybe the casinos will turn to other forms of entertainment but, i see no long term growth for video poker that’s for sure. Florida maybe an exception for now, but i think the new crop of seniors will find something else to do.

I have had several Chevys from the time period you referenced. Yes, those were bad years for everything coming out of Detroit, partially because of emissions regulations but also because of tenured auto workers with little incentive. However, my most recent Chevy is a 2010 Tahoe that I bought new and it now has 311,000 miles on it and still going strong. Yes, I do a lot of highway driving, but still..... The difference in GM quality today vs those bad years is amazing. There are two factors, in my opinion. First, Detroit finally worked out the emissions and employee problems. Next, Detroit finally, after all these years, woke up and accepted that the imports were not going away and that the quality standards of American automobiles simply MUST improve. As I wrote, my Tahoe is a glowing testament to the improved quality coming out of Detroit. (Although I think it is made in Ohio, lol.)

I have never missed an oil change or a scheduled service and in 311,000 miles not a single issue. I got nicked by a careless driver once, but that's it. Like a Timex, that Tahoe takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.

Thats great news about the tahoe. I guess saturn was doing their own thing because my 98 that i bought 3 years old with 36 k on it is still going. The entite drivetrain is original with 384000 miles on it. I am using oil now and it is certainly entitled to do that but it isnt down on power so it could be valve seals or maybe an oil ring. At any rate it has given me 3 lifetimes. I like the look of the new chevy pickups and will certainly check them out as im retiring the saturn pretty soon.

Just to connect this to vp, my saturn is still the vehicle i make my casino runs in. It has always got me up and back even though a couple of times it was limping. If the casinos keep eating away at our good vp games, it gives me a good excuse to get the pickup, throw my 10 foot aluminum boat in the back with my 1958 3hp evenrude and hang up my sign gone fishin.

Same here regarding Chevy and Ford. In the 70s, 80s and even 90s had really bad experiences with both. My Chevy Malibu Wagon had 3 of its Pistons go with less than 50 K miles. Ford Taurus transmission went again with less than 50k miles. My son's Taurus engine went, twice with about 50 k miles. All were well maintained. I switched to a Toyota Camry built in Georgetown Kentucky. Lasted a long time for me and then for my son. Been with Toyota ever since. My late wife wanted a Chevy Lumina in the 90s. The rubber seal around the gas tank went on that one. She passed away shortly thereafter, otherwise I would have gotten her a Toyota. My current wife has had Toyota or Lexus since before we met.

There are plenty of places to play. To hell with them.

Scavengers suck. There are a few at the local casino that are very annoying.
