Forum... Battlefield or Entertainment?

Post by FloridaPhil »

Some of you folks take this forum thing way too seriously. To me it's just a place to hang out and have some fun. When you post you shouldn't have to worry if the PC police will bring you up on charges. I remember years ago we had someone who seemingly hated the words "Indian Casino". Every time we posted those words, he scolded us for being insensitive to native Americans. How silly.

Some words in our society are getting crazy. Young people use words that would get you arrested when I was a kid. Some of the worse language I have heard came out of the mouth of a young women. Real classy...

The video poker strategy you use is a personal decision. If you post it here, you are opening yourself up to comments. This is the way it should be. How are we going to learn anything if we don't discuss everything including the wrong way to play? Some of the strategies I have used in the past had a different goal than a professional VP player. You shouldn't need a genius IQ to figure that out.

Being a participant in this forum means you are encouraging comments on your posts. I post because I enjoy those comments. I sometimes make comments to purposely attract comments. What is the sense in having a forum if we all agree? When this happens, the forum gets stale and we fall back on the same old cigarette smoke and button banging tirades. Worse yet, all we do is post pictures of our latest win. How many times can you congratulate someone?

Personal insults are childish. Sometimes they are made by mistake. I have no way of knowing if anyone on this forum has different political views than me, is out of shape, has a tattoo or is a member of some religious or racial minority. I don't care. All I want to talk about on this forum is what happens in a casino.

I am a member of some other forums. They are not gambling forums. The same things happen on those forums that happen here. If all this forum stuff makes you angry, perhaps you should find another way to occupy your time or sit on the sidelines and watch the show. As for me, I like it just the way it is. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

Phil, I agree there is too much rancor here. I appreciate a good discussion and dialogue. Disagreements and different perspectives on issues are essential. What I object too is the personal denigration and insults some posters feel compelled to include with their views. The best response is one devoid of the same language they use. As my sage aunt once said, if someone is in the gutter, you don't need to join them.

I don't know why some people think that is necessary. It is not necessary to insult people who have a different view of video poker or the world in general. Insulting people never wins arguments or gains respect. All it does is create enemies.

Let's lighten up. I am here to be entertained, not fight a war with someone I have never met. When it comes to video poker, I want to hear all strategies and opinions. I may not agree with them, but I want you to have the right to state them. Keep in mind that your posts will be openly discussed and any flaws exposed. Some of the things you believe now might change in the future. Everything works until it doesn't.

Lets look at the last thread phil started. One that got locked because of him.
Phil mentioned how it cost him $2,000 to fly to Vegas. I made a simple suggestion that would cut the cost in half, allowing him to play good games twice as often.
Knowing him, I wasn't expecting a thank you but I certainly wasn't expecting repeated insults and attacks on my weight. Then, to show what a fair and balanced type of guy he is, phil goes off on anyone not living up to his godlike standards and explains he cant possibly sit in the squalor of coach and needs to be with the other beautiful people in first class.
Why do you suppose the thread was locked? Who were the posters spewing garbage who got the thread locked? Who is it that consistently starts threads that gets locked? How ironic is it that that very person starts threads like this on a regular basis, as well?

Billy, I did not know who we were talking about. I have never met you and have no idea how much you weigh or what you look like. If I hurt your feelings, I apologize.

All I know is you seem angry all the time. You are angry with me because I don't idolize professional gamblers. You are angry with me because I don't believe math will predict what will happen next week at the casino. You are angry because I don't care if I make a profit playing video poker. You are especially angry because I made a little money playing single coin VP and wrote about it.

If you met me, you would find I am one of the happiest people on this planet. I have nothing to be mad about. I've had a great life and am happy with the decisions I made. I don't envy anyone and I don't want to be anyone else. It's a good place to be.

Like everyone, life threw me a few curves. I wasn't born rich. No one paid for my college education. I never hit a million dollar jackpot. My wife and I started out two 18 year old kids with no job and no money. All I did was do the best I could with what I had to work with. Fifty four years later everything worked out fine.

This forum could be so much more than it is now. We could share some fun together without math formulas and simulations. We could discuss doing crazy things and no one would care. If a forum member wants to profit from VP, they should sign up for classes with someone who knows how. I don't. All I want from a casino is a nice day away from the office and to spend some quality time with my beautiful wife. It doesn't get much better than that.

First of all, my comment was not directed specifically at anyone in particular. There is just too much ranking out by too many posters. My hope is that everyone cool it. If you need to blast some, either don't do it or kill them with kindness. Overall, we don't need repetition or overly verbose responses to posts we find irritating, annoying, etc. We have all done it. I will try and do my part.

Sad... You can have the last word on this one. I'll pray that some day you will realize the world is not against you. Gambling is not that important.
