There are thousands of people making a living in Vegas. Anyone with half a brain and drive can do it. It's not easy and can be monotonous, but it can be done. The thing is anyone that devoted and intelligent can probably do better elsewhere.
One of my best friends in Vegas loves blackjack. He often thought of quitting and pursuing it full time. Instead, he kept his day job and played on vacations. He put in 25 years, has a pension worth $50,000 a year, and now plays when he wants. Raised his family, served the public and now pursues his dream.
A dream delayed is not a dream delayed denied.

I'll try to find this article about a guy that was not in Vegas but in the midwest. He was a quarter player and basically would drive to midwest, east coast and indian casinos to follow the promos. He made it sound like a real job. He was superfast in betting those 5 quarters. Kept a count on how long it would take to hit a RF. Clocked in at 9; took an hour for lunch, kept betting in the afternoon. Then, he would retire to a basic hotel room. And, most times he had to deal with smoke from casinos.

He had a wife family and would tell them, "Honey, going to a Maryland casino. See you in a week and half. Love you!"

On the plus side, he would always pick positive EV games/promos. And, he estimated that he was clearing $50K/annual income.
