Our Great White Cabot

Post by olds442jetaway »

Yesterday, for the first time ever a Great White Shark named Cabot was tracked in Long Island Sound. If anyone would like to check his movements, go to Ocearch.org. You can also track Dolphins, Sea Turtles, or other sharks. The latest ping for Cabot at roughly 745 this evening has him out to sea off the coast of Boston. I am a wanna be Marine Biologist and stuck with that major reluctantly switching to Psych after getting lazy. I still stayed active in the field and have as much interest today as 50 some years ago. Living on the coast, there is always something to do in the field when not playing vp. Check out the site. It is quite interesting.

I live 5 blocks from the ocean and used to go in the water several times every year. Not anymore. I think the shark population is growing. I'll stay at the pool.

Being a nut for marine life, I do the opposite. In 1972, we went to Nassau for our honeymoon. I went out of the boundaries where you were supposed to swim the natives at the shore went crazy, but I didn’t hear them I had a snorkel and mask. I ditched the snorkel and could hold my breath a long time back then. Anyway, I swam alongside a giant and deadly sea snake for awhile and a few minutes later was in the midst of a big school of Barracuda. I didn’t make any sudden movements and was fine. When I finally got back to shore, the natives said things to me in their native language I can only imagine what they were. I may have posted before about one time in the outer banks of North Carolina where I swam alongside a 15 foot Hammerhead shark alongside the Nags Head fishing pier. I guess by now I must have used up most of my 9 lives.
