At the casinos where I play, it is common for the bar machines to have better games. I don't drink alcohol, but I often wish to play at the bar. How do I handle this? Should I order a glass of water and tip the bartender? How often should I tip him? Thanks.BobDancer wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2019 1:01 amtipping is more important at bartops than elsewhere --- if you're a competent player. at places where you have the advantage, the bartender is going to see you day after day. If you're doing well, the bartender will know. If you combine this with not tipping the bartender, it's easy for the bartender to say something to slot supervisors which will not help you. Making the bartender your friend is smart business.

Hi Phil welcome back what I do it specially if I’m driving I won’t drink at the casino just order watertip a buck and if I’m there more than two hours I’ll get another water or tip a buck when I leave I think that should be fine if they put out pretzel sticks or something like that I probably tip another buck even if I didn’t ask for them. I realize I’m taking up a spot where there could be a nonstop Drinker leaving pretty good tips so I like least like to leave them something reasonable Phil, I tried to fill your shoes in your absence, but I guess we take a different size. Kept my mind working at any rate. That’s very important at this stage of the game plus that 30 minute daily walk too! Whhoops! Part of the 30 minutes is at the casino

I am always concerned that I may not be tipping frequently enough. When my wife plays at the bar she drinks wine. She tips the bartender a dollar with each drink. I order water at the same time and tip the same. If I am alone and the bartender asks me if I need anything, I feel obliged to order another water and tip another dollar. Sometimes I wonder if I'm tipping too much?
We just returned from our Northwest road trip. We had a great trip, saw a lot of great sites and played a lot of VP. I'll post an update when I have the time.

Welcome back FP. I never drink when gambling. When we played VP, we always tipped a dollar when provided a soft drink, coffee, or water whether it was by a waitress/waiter at a machine or by a bartender at a bar.

Nah, water is still a drink to be served. If he/she is giving you the small bottles of water, I tend to give $1 for 2 of those, but $1 is a nice tip for a water or N/A drink like soda. Funny thing is, I typically think I do worse when I get water from the bar instead of beer.FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 5:31 amI am always concerned that I may not be tipping frequently enough. How many waters should I order in an hour that will let the bar tender keep my seat?

Many years ago when I first started playing VP, I was at a casino bar on the Mississippi coast.
I hit a $2000 jackpot and reacted very excitedly. The bartender came over, looked at the win, and said, "I'll call and get an attendant for you." I thanked him.
A few minutes later the attendant arrived, took my info down, and left to get my hand pay. I called the bartender over and thanked him profusely for calling the attendant. I tipped him something like $10.
When the attendant returned with my cash, I tipped her and happened to mention that the bartender had called the win in and I was so grateful that she responded so quickly to his call. She laughed out loud and asked, "Did you give him a tip?" I said, "Yep, $10," and she laughed again before leaving.
Later, I learned that, of course, the machine automatically signals for an attendant and the bartender had nothing to do with it. He just faked the call. I wonder how many nice tips he racked up from unsuspecting newbies like me.
