Introducing Opponent Poker!

Post by Webman »

We at VideoPoker.com are proud to announce a preview of Opponent Poker.
Here’s how it works: You play your favorite video poker
game using your own strategy – wagering on your five card hand. In addition, you bet another five coins against two life-like, animated opponents.  If you win on your video poker hand, you win based on that pay table -- just like traditional video poker.  If you have a winning hand that’s better than your animated opponents winning hands, you beat them and take their winnings too!  When you and one or both of the opponents have a tie hand – say Jacks or Better each – then money goes into a pot and builds with each tie hand until someone wins the pot with a superior hand.

Two things make this game unbelievably fun.  One is that you get to pick from 6 different opponents to play against, and they all behave differently when they win or lose.  They have hilarious behavioral ticks and celebrate winning and get really angry losing.  The other is that opponents play an auto-hold strategy (based on the best odds) that you always get to see.  When the pot grows big, they continue to play the best odds, but you may choose to change strategy in order to win that big pot. These occasional strategy switches make the game really interesting!

We love this game and think you will too.  It will soon be out in casinos but if you'd like to get a jump on the game or just prefer to play at home, you can download a free trial by clicking the link below.

Sounds "interesting".  Do you know what the Return will be on these machines...different for each game I presume but how much less than straight Video Poker?  Also, when they hit the casinos, do you know what the cost per credit will likely be?

I downloaded the trial version and played a while.  It is kind of fun and the pots can get pretty big.  I do have one question and one complaint.  Question first, where does the "all hands" payout come from?  I actually hit a royal and not only got paid 4000 for mine I received another 4000 for "all hands"  but the other players did not have a royal.
On to the complaint,  you can't hold cards with the keys on your keyboard like you can with the games on this website.  This tends to be a big pain in the you know what.  I use a laptop and no mouse so to use the touchpad to hold the cards is way to time consuming for me.

According to The Wizard of Odds at:
http://wizardofodds.com/videopoker/tabl ... poker.html
this is now available in casinos and the opponents do not always make the highest EV plays.

An interesting question might be whether you should ever deviate from what would be the highest EV play (in normal VP) based on what the opponent does (to have a better chance of beating him).
