Biden, Trump on the Future of Video Poker

Post by OTABILL »

There have been numerous posts regarding the candidates’ views on a variety of issues but none regarding Video Poker. Since this site is dedicated to VP, how about discussing how the election could impact the future of VP (and casinos) in this country. There are plenty of other forums elsewhere to talk about the candidate’ positions on non-VP, related subject matter.

I don't think that chat should be in this particular formum, but go for it. I never played VP in a trump owned casion, so I can't say if it was better or worse than his rivals.Biden is froma state that has done well with casinos but he wasn't much of a factor, as far as I know.Pence seem to be against any form of fun, including gambling so thats something to consider if he runs in 2024.

If Biden completely rolls back the last tax plan, it could have an impact with regard to deductions and offsetting hand pays. That did make a bit of a mess for people as an unfortunate side effect. But I think any rollbacks would be more selective and possibly only update the tax rates on large corporations and investments.

If Trump wins, I wouldn't expect much to change with regard to VP that hasn't already.

Politically I think the biggest thing either could do that would affect VP Players would be to raise the W2G limit. I'm not going to hold my breath on that. But if either of them would be more likely to do so, it is probably Trump. I doubt this on anyone's agenda.

If trump wins, we are going to see more drama and angst as trump continues to govern like our lives are part of a reality tv show. More name calling, more blaming others when things go bad while taking credit anytime something good happens. More severe hospitalizations and covid deaths. Trump has owned casinos before, most that are now bankrupt or shuttered, but I see no indication he will do anything one way or another to benefit those of us that like to go to the casino.

If Biden wins, we will have a sense of honesty and decency installed in the Whitehouse. I don't see him doing anything to impact those of us that play VP either. He and his team he assembles will have their hands full straightening out the mess left to them by trump. Both domestically and repairing our relationships with our allies around the world. Until things stabilize we have some tough times ahead of us regardless of who wins. Going to the casino is going to be much more of a luxury than it has been in a long time.

It is going to be interesting to see what exactly does happen to the casinos that do survive the economic fallout we are going through. Will they give more comps and better paytables to attract more business? Will they try to adjust by cutting costs and make it harder than ever for a VP player to have a fair chance to have a winning trip? We shall see. I don't see trump or Biden having much of an impact on the future of video poker. Not directly anyway.

I don’t really have an opinion either way except for the tax consequences. If anything, with all phases of government desparate for money at this point, I don’t see any new tax breaks for gambling coming our way.
