Mosquitos! man do we get them. A can of mosquito repellant at every door, in the cars, in your jacket, in ladies purses (I would never admit to carrying one). They absolutely love it when you park the car and they get a whiff of the exaust. All summer long everyone smells like OFF. As I remember the mosquitos Up North at least had the decency to wait until eveing to come out. Here they forage 24 Hrs. a day.  Southern Hospitality?
They do not have Shoo Fly Pie down here it is Shoo Mosquito fly. Did I mention we get mosquitos down here?

Winpoker does not support OEJs (and Bob Dancer no longer has his name on the product since he is now marketing VPfW). Wolfvideopoker.com (WVP) provides a full strategy or you can go to vpgenius.com and get a close strategy. I hope you downloaded vipoker as well since it is free and lets you practice the game.

BTW, I have five software programs loaded on my computer. They are all good and each has it's advantages. I'm sure I'll eventually download VPfW as well. They are all extremely reasonable when you compare the cost to even a few minutes gambling.

It's a little humorous that most people count down their time to visit Las Vegas. That is where I'm currently located, and I'm starting to count down my days to head back to MN. Thanks for the info Shadowman.  I checked out the Wolf Video Poker program.  The demo only had 7/5 JOB and I'm not sure that I want to pay the $49.99 to get the same practice features that I already get in ViPoker.I also checked out vpgenius.com.  I'm quite overwhelmed by the strategy listed there.  I found the One-Eyed-Jacks page, selected "Basic Strategy" from the list, then clicked "Analyze".  It then displayed hundreds of lines of card-combinations with stats by them.  Was I looking at the right thing?I guess I'm really looking for something quite a bit simpler than that.  Maybe a list of 20 or so rules.  Something similar to what I've seen for some other video poker strategies (even if it is a bit less than perfect play).  Or a small card that you can bring with you to the casino.  Does such a thing exist for One Eyed Jacks? Also, do you happen to know if either of the Grand Casinos in MN or Mystic Lake have 5cent full pay OEJ machines?  I know that it is easy to find the 25cent machines.Sorry for asking so many questions at once.

Did I not mention OEJs was the most difficult game on the planet.

The full version of WVP contains OEJs as well as over 100 other games. The basic stategy for OEJs contains only 98 entries. The Penalty strategy has 200 entires (and it's not really complete either). You could print off the basic strategy and probably simplify it yourself after practicing for awhile. That is how I started. Later I added in the full basic strategy and then came up with some additional rules that encompassed many of the other situations. The cost of the basic strategy is only .04% so it is not too bad.

Also, do you happen to know if either of the Grand Casinos in MN or Mystic Lake have 5cent full pay OEJ machines?  I know that it is easy to find the 25cent machines.

As far as I know Mystic has no decent OEJs (however, I haven't been there in 4 years). The Grand at Hinckley has many nickel machines but they all require 20 coins to get max payout on the RF, so they are essentially a .20 machine. One bank is a progressive as well and it is quite busy most of the time. I haven't been to Mille Lacs for several years so I can't help you there. TI has only quarter and dollar games.

What exactly is meant by "Penalty" strategy? Is that another term for unabridged perfect strategy?

Sorry for being such a pest on this, but just out of curiosity, how many entries can you simplify down from 98 and still get a good 100%+ return? Do you typically play the basic (98 entry) strategy (and only give up 0.04%)?

Do you typically look for a machine with a good progressive jackpot to play? Or, just about any $0.25 or $1.00 5-coin max machine?

Does anyone know of any video poker books that might have a simplified OEJ strategy in them? I've haven't found any yet that even mention the game.

Thanks again, and by the way, we just got a bunch of snow yesterday in MN.

Yes. More or less ... penalty strategies are another level of detail but may still be less than perfect.

Ask as many questions as you like. On forums like this you are also helping others who read the threads but don't feel comfortable posting.

With wild card games you end of separating strategy items by the number of wild cards that are held. With OEJs you end of learning 3 strategies with much fewer entries. It simplifies the overall process.

I play a little better than basic strategy.

I think you could get a strategy at around 50 total lines total that still played over 100%. Some strategy items are obvious (like holding dealt RFs) so the number of lines can be misleading as well.

Do you typically look for a machine with a good progressive jackpot to play? Or, just about any $0.25 or $1.00 5-coin max machine?

The progressives for OEJs are rarely very high as they use a very slow meter. So, I will play any of the full pay machines at max coin. These days I typically play the dollar machines.

Never seen a book mention OEJs either. This game was an exclusive to Grand Casinos (mostly in MS) before they were bought out by Harrahs. I think that is one reason why it never was widely known.

I watched a replay of the Angels-Twins game last night and they showed some of the snow. I sure hope that's the last snowstorm of the season but I can remeber a few years ago getting 14" on April 29th after we returned.

Yep, the weather up here keeps the riff raff away. Present company excepted of course.  I only shoveled about 2-3 inches of the heavy wet stuff but there was more like 6-8 around St. Paul and north and Lakeville.

How about those Twins? The consensus up here is that the Angels were baffled by Liriano's blazing 86 mph heater, they were all ahead of him 'cause they can't believe he can pitch that slowly. Local traffic passes the ball when he pulls the string on it.

Actually, Liriano is still in the Minors....it was Livan Hernandez pitching the other night....for perhaps the Twins sole victory vs. the AngelsI LOVE the twins, but boy they might really, really stink this year :(

Right you are. Hernandez pitched quite well, but he is a lifetime .500 pitcher and it's not comforting for him to be the number 1 starter. Yes, Liriano should boost the pitching when he returns after his two minor league starts, but the hitting looks questionable, little power and our set-up guys are only a little above average. Add that to the strength of the division and you won't see me putting any money on the Twins this year.
