An Interesting Video Poker Hand....

Post by bicyclecardplayer »

I was playing max credits playing Deuces Wild Joker Poker (unfortunately a game that was not on here ) and got dealt the following hand:

As - 2 - 2 - Ac - Joker

I already got a 5 of a kind with the hand, but is it best to get greedy and go for the 4 deuces with a joker, go for the wild royal flush, or keep the 5 aces and call it a day?

It is only best to be greedy if you really do not care about the 45 credits that you just won as much as you care about trying for the 10000 credits for the big 5-Wild jackpot.

On average, you will get fewer credits if you keep the 2 deuces and the joker; you will get the big jackpot less than once in a thousand times and the wild royal is usually only worth a few coins more (5 to 15 more) than quints.  You will only get the wild royal flush 6% of the time.  You can also get lucky and get 5 of a kind again (11% of the time), but this means that 94% of the time you will be no better off by drawing than by keeping the dealt 5 of a kind.  And you'll be worse off 83% of the time.  But, it's your money!  Do you feel lucky?

If I had 3 2's and the joker I would have been not just 2-i dont think thats correct strategy, but who plays correct strategy all the time?

throw away the aces and go for the 4 deuces; go for the whole ball of wax!

that's why they call it gambling.

Sounds like a response from a casino manager

Clearly, from a long term view you'd hold all the cards, however, if one's goal is to win big today and you don't care about losing more money over time than "going for it"  may be right for you.

I see now why so very people play this silly game (this and double joker poker).

For those of you curious folk, I did gamble and got squadoosh (nothing)!  I sobbed over my 4-of-a-kind payoff and moved on.

Actually, Double Joker Poker is one of the better games out there (FP version, of course) and is arguably the best game available in some places like Atlantic City.  There used to be a lot of them here in AC, but they have taken away a lot of them.  However, as a personal preference, I find double joker boring...

Do you have the payout for Double Joker Poker?

bicycle,

For Double Joker Poker, the payback % for the full pay version is 99.97% with optimal strategy.  With any slot club in AC, it will be over 100%.  There is an easy way to tell the full-pay version versus the lower-paying short-pay version.  The full pay has the 4 of a kind payout at 9 coins (45 on max bet) and the short pay has the 4 of a kind payout at 8 (40 on max bet.)  There won't be any other differences.  Doesn't seem like much, but it drops the payback % quite a bit.

I have found these machines at Tropicana and also at Bally's.  I haven't seen the full-pay versions anywhere else in AC.
