Lovely Janette - I took a walk through the new Harrah's Horseshoe Casino in Hammond Indiana yesterday, July 30th. Saying it is a huge improvement over the old casino would be like going from a Yugo to a new Corvette. The facility is large, bright and open and, well thought out. The increase to over 3,000 machines is evident. There is an area in the rear of the casino for video poker and I saw denominations starting at .05. There might be some penny machines but I really didn't spend a whole lot of time in there. There is a new poker room, the old casino had none, and it is WPT themed. I personally would wait until the grand opening after August 8th to spend some time there because even though they were open for business when I visited there were well over 50% of the machines that were not put in to service yet and unplayable. This will easily be the nicest casino in Indiana and it will do damage to the other casinos in the immediate area. The only downfall for me was that after just spending one hour there my clothes just reeked of cigarette smoke, I am spoiled from the Illinois no smoking laws now in place. Good luck, Ted.

I was there yesterday (August 1st) while driving back from Harrah's Joliet to KY.  Looked like about half the machines were operational.  I would guess there are probably 120 VP machines.  The casino seemed clean and the VP area has a nice variety of machines ($.05 and up) although I wasn't impressed with the paytables.  I'm a non-smoker and the ventilation seemed pretty good compared to Horsehoe in Southern IN.
They really cool thing for me was four GameMaker HD machines.  I mentioned this in another post, but they have about 24" widescreen LCD monitors that have hoods over them to eliminate glare.  Great chairs.  Large buttons and great wrist rest.  Ergonomics probably don't matter to hardcore players, but I had just played 58 hours of VP over 6 days.  These machines have 8/5 DDB.  I hit 4 Ace with Kicker twice in my first 20 minutes of play.
I think I heard the grand opening is now August 8th.
