Casino losers

Post by rascal »

The one thing that drives me nuts in casinos is losers who run out of money and instead of leaving amble around and bother other players.
Yesterday I sat down at a machine ready to play when all of a sudden this guy wandered up and started telling me how to play the machine. I politely let him know that I already knew how to pay and I proceeded to play. Instead of leaving, he stood behind me and slightly to the side, watching me play, which is very aggravating. I have a habit in DDB of only holding the 2-3-4 when presented with 2 pair, and after I held just a pair of 3s and threw away a pair of 7s, the guy leans forward and actually taps the screen of the machine and shows me what I did wrong. So at this point, still polite but much more definite, I told him to take a hike.

A little later I saw him a few machines down from me, badgering a lady who had just won a jackpot. He was congratulating her and striking up a conversation, and I knew exactly what was coming next. He was going to try to borrow some money from her. I have had that happen so many times --- win a jackpot and then have a casino loser come up and be all friendly, with the intention of trying to get a small "loan." I always say, "You need to be real careful...the casino will ban you permanently if they catch you trying to borrow money from players."

Vegas is so good about showing these people the door. Why do the casinos in the hinderlands let this problem exist? Come in to play, and when you run out of money or when you have played enough, leave. Don't bother the players who are still playing and who are trying to concentrate on what they are doing. Nothing ruins the play more than to have someone obviously standing there watching you. If I ever watch another player, it is from a very discrete distance where I am sure they are unaware.

Am I unique, or does this bother other people?

No problem for me there. Usually when I sit next to someome they leave within a few minuets. I don't know why. I am starting to get a complex from it. I wonder if I smell bad or my breath stinks. I know neither is true , I have good hygiene I have been told. Anyway it does make  it nice  when trying to concentrate and win. Guess I should consider myself lucky.

It is probably a coincidence. Their money or their luck ran out and they left. Also, many players seem to hop around on different machines.

You are probably right. I was really starting to think it was me. But you know I am really not one of those that distracts others by slapping the buttons and playing 100 miles per hour or talks to myself the whole time.
I try to be invisible.

On my last trip to Vegas in November I noticed a lot of players sit down, play about ten hands and leave. I began to wonder if there are as many "serious" VP players as I had originally thought. It's not unusual for me to sit and play the same machine for two hours or more; if my bankroll holds up of course On the other hand, if I am really into my game I can go into a zone that even if the casino burned down around me I might not notice I love this game!!

I admit I like to watch other players play VP.  Especially if they are playing at a high donomination.  I wiil stand at a distance and mentally play the game along with them using my own method of play.  I keep my mouth shut and never say a word, unless spoken to.  If they show any signs of displeasure I will immediately move on.

I once tried my luck playing crap but got ripped of my clothes . But after losing my luck at casino, I simply walked away

I think there should be some loan facility for gamling players who have lost, and wish to play other casino games

The one thing I have learned about losing in the casino is that when you leave a machine that you were playing DO NOT HANG AROUND AND WATCH THE NEXT PLAYER-IF HE/SHE HITS BIG YOU WILL BE SORRY!  I also think ATM's in casinos are like booze to an alcoholic.  Obviously the majority of people gamble responsibly, but sometimes the easy access to more cash can be a bad thing.

That's one of my pet peeves.  I find myself misplaying hands when someone's watching me because I keep seeing them out of the corner of my eye.
Similar peeve - having someone sit next to me who is just learning how to play asking me which cards to hold - every hand!  I'm always happy to give advice - if asked! - but on every hand?

Another pet peeve - cashing out on a coin machine, and finding out the hard way that the previous player spilled a drink in the coin-out tray, or was using it as an ash tray.  Ick.

Another - people playing two machines at once at a crowded bank.  Here in Colorado there's a "one player, one machine" policy, but it isn't enforced well.

Another - here in CO the casinos give free cheap drinks if you're actually playing.  Couldn't tell you the number of times I've played at the bar in a casino and had someone sit next to me, not playing but trying to strike up a conversation so that the bartender will think we're buddies.
