So very confusing!!!

Discuss proper hold strategies and "advantage play" and ask questions about how to improve your play.

So very confusing!!!

Post by 1wildman »

Hi all,  I'm a brand new member and appreciate finding this site via google search - so much experience here!!
I have a problem -- going to AC NJ on March 26 - I want to stop being a VPsucker (poor player) - I can't seem to find a machine either here or at other sites that matches the machines in AC - Jacks or better Joker poker, with the top $$$$ being paid for 5 of a kind - I recall the machines having 1 joker in the deck - also  (an example hand)   A K 4 4 2  Since I'M shooting for the 5 of a kind - my strategy would be to hold the 4's and discard the others? -- sorry  I'm such a newbie -but I don't want 2 leave AC broken again -- Thank you so much for any assistance -- Steve

As I have suggested on other threads you should consider downloading one of the VP software programs. I know that winpoker and vipoker both have AC Joker Poker as, I suspect, others do as well (VPfW, FVP, Optimum, etc.). Try google and if you have a problem I can give you direct references.

Since these programs can be set up to warn you if you make incorrect holds they are useful in understanding hands like the one you gave.

PS. Holding the 4's is correct.

I can confirm that Video Poker for Winners does contain Two Pair AC Joker Poker and that the correct hold for that example hand would be  to hold the fours.

The Expected Values of the four best holds would be:
4e4c 3.74015
4e4c2f 2.5798
Kc4e4c 2.5798
A`4e4c 2.5798

It also provides a chart of all the possible outcomes and odds based on each possible hold.

A/C 2-pair JP is one of the most difficult games to learn. You won't learn enough about the game by the 26th. Variance is high and payback% is usually low. If you like JP, start with Kings or better JP(4K-royal flush,1-K 5 of a kind). Good luck.

Good point. I believe A/C has 9/6 JOB in several casinos. That may be a better choice in the near term.

Thank You  Shadowman-Webman & Bigboy  I sincerely appreciate your time for solid advice.  I'm outta work due to an operation so my bankroll is very slim, I'm going to bring a pad with me and jot down all the games available, when I return to AC at the end of May I'll be better prepared and well practiced... Again thank you 3 so much for your quick reply and most excellent advice!!!  Steve   (at 53 I'm not so wild anymore-lol)
