Many moons ago, a university professor divided his class of students into prisoners and guards for role playing and to illustrate a point. The gist was that very soon the guards were over-come with their new found power. They were belligerent, demeaning, surly, unpleasant, taunting, threatening, scary. The prisoners were intimidated, frustrated, most unhappy with unfair, abusive treatment. This led to some heated discussion. One aspect is power can lead to abuse and corruption. If anyone has a different slant on this, please feel free to contribute. It was probably a law enforcement, criminal justice or psychology class.
The MGM security guard and supervisor were soft spoken, listened to me, respectfully enough and were just doing their job as they saw fit. I was trying to be humorous instead of losing my cool. Inside, I was very uncomfortable in this unusual and undeserved situation, a tad frightened and unable to predict the outcome. I did not wish to antagonize them.

Yes, I've read about that study in Soc classes. Similar to the "ism" test of course, where students were taught about negative attributes in people with a certain color eyes. Treatment of the students varied greatly.  Good studies, hopefully with strong debriefing sessions that followed.

marie, I have worked as a security guard at hospitals, nuck power plants, and other comm. operations. Also work in other law enforcement field. Its been 20 years sence been guard other than couple years ago at the hospital, where i saw alot of blood and dead people. My brother was a  police officer and chief of police for 16years. About 24 years ago two weeks on the job he had to deal with speeder that rear ended a tractor trailer lets just say he was(driver) decapitated. Now when u see that u can understand why they pull over people for speeding(we all speed)but we dont allways get caught if u new it was going to save ur life would u rather be pulled over or maybe pass away? WE ALL KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS ONE! About 6 year ago i was pulled over in Conn. at the off ramp to Foxwoods casino there where 6 other cars pulled over i got a ticket for no seat bealt on, i was lets say tad upset( mad) my state has no seat bealt law i paid the fine 37$but it was at the exit for casino so they got me twice for $$. But u know what i wear my seat bealt all the time now. My bothers wife made him get out law enforc. 8 years ago, lets just say was shoot out and many people were killed police, clerk, judge, ect. they were his friends.I dont know u personaly u sound like good person, and sometimes guards, police have to make jugdement calls and u know they didnt make a good call when they some what harassed u, they are people like us they do make mistakes hopefully not big ones. These things i talk about are much more extreme than ur case, but what happen to u was probaly wroung. And ur probaly right that some guards get power hungery, but they have no arresting power atleast in my state(only citzen arrest power and generally only for felony being commited) U can do couple things get lawyer sue, if casino u like to go to that would have to stop, or talk to upper management and see what they can do for u, if u still like to go there, Well good luck with it.

sam4343 WHOA! Thanks for sharing your post! It is one of the most moving and useful FYI ones on this forum to date, IMHO. It's always a good thing to have the other side of a topic represented. I do realize guards and officers have a job to do and their work can be risky. They have to be alert every second to avoid harms way.
We knew a fine officer/detective who was shot during a domestic violence call. DV is one of the most potentially dangerous calls. Fortunately, the wound was almost minor and he recovered nicely.
Seat belts are for our own good. I always wear one except for the time I was stopped for no brake light. I was running late to teach a class and only had two blocks to drive. That set me back $24. Amounts for that fine vary from one community to another and can run up to $100. or more. Probably double in work zones, as such signs are posted in MI.
A driver of a semi was stopped for no seat belt. "Okay officer, you got me but how did you know?" because the cab was up so high. The reply "Your seat belt was hanging out the door!"

marie, Im still laughing laughing, seat belt hanging out the door of cab. I carry CDL-A license which is tractor trailer lic. had it cents 1990 and i should of know better in tractor trailer u have to wear your seat belt all the time no matter what state your in, its the law. It,s a interstate law. And probaly 8 put 10 times its going save your life.  I tend to defend police officers i have in the past work with alot of them.  They have to deal with with alot of low lifes(i talking about hardcor criminals violent) My wife dosent like me watching the TV show COPS because i get so upset. It cost about $35000 year to take care of one of them times 30 or more years in prision thats over $1,000,000 thats more than alot people make in that time period. Sorry going on here could write a book on this BS. Hopefully your case is staighten out. Thanks for writing back.

YMD - that's funny, Ted. We highly recommend the swordfish and NY strip steak at Wolfman Puck at MGM Detroit! It's a very handsome, large restaurant with a well-trained staff. MGM head of security phoned today and apologized. She said I resembled someone else and wished the situation had been handled differently. My negative experience had nothing to do with the parking structure, yogurt or water bottle. May this incident RIP.
