Lake Charles Casino Changes

Post by Lucky Larry »

Just back from Lake Charles some changes at Lauberge du Lac and Isle of Capri.

Lauberge du Lac has added more "Spin Poker" they now have a whole bank of 50¢/$1/$2/$5 spin on the center aisle to the left of the Host Stand. Gotta love those high rollers (watched a guy play $90/spin -down $11K before he began to hit and caught 2 RF on separate machines waiting for hand pays.) He wasn't sweating as much as I do when I'm down $100 on nickels.

Next to the Host Stand they added low denomination Double Super Times Pay (3 machines).

Isle of Capri - the new GM is moving the video poker from behind the escalators to the open floor where the gaming tables are currently. No idea if pay table changes are coming as well. He just came over from Lauberge du lac (with lower low denomination pay tables) and is trying to bring over some of the whales and high rollers. So the lower deck VP and slot area is going to be made into a high limits area and the back room by the restrooms will be the new "High Limits VIP Lounge". Changes are suppose to come in March if approved by gaming commission.

I copied down the serial number on my favorite machine so when its moved I can find it if its not taken out.

Also word is that the Gaming Commission is looking at deciding on a third casino for Lake Charles in March. (3 groups competing for license including Hard Rock).

We stopped by Lake Charles a couple of days ago also.  What are your thoughts on the video poker machines located on the second floor of the Crown Boat?  It appears they had JOB, DDB, DW, DWBonus, and a few more games.  We didn't have much time...I think they were .05/.25/.50 denominations. We have been by passing Lake Charles to go toL'auberge and Coushatta. This time we played at the Isle several hours.  We both played the nickle denomination and my wife hit the 4 deuces for 1000 and we both hit the four aces with a kicker for 2000.  We noticed very few people were playing those machines.  It also surprised us to learn they close the Crown Boat around 1 a.m. during the week.  The other casino area was still open after that time.

texas,
Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on the hits.

We've seen the Crown machines but only play the VP on the Grand. First, the Progressive DDB is incredible-the best we seen for consistent hits. Second, the 98% return on the multi-hand (MH) nickels is the highest in the area. There is also a few other machines that are really good machines. We played Lauberge Monday for a short time but the low denomination pay tables are really low compared to Isle and it is much harder to get a MH machine. Can't stand the bar tops and the single hand 5¢/10¢ 24¢/$1 play next to the host stand were just removed. We also don't play $VP much anymore since we retired. If you do play at Lauberge where the $VP is 99% return.

The Crown closes because it can't draw the players. The previous GM closed it completely except the poker room at varying times to save money especially last year when the economy tanked.

Larry...
Thanks for the information.  It will be interesting to see what changes come about at the Isle.  I do wish they would add more of the multi-hand play at the Isle.

My wife hit a RF at Lauberge last month on a .25 VP machine.

Congrats to you...was just reading about your lucky streak.  Hope it continues for you!!!

Suggestions can be sent to the Isle Director of Slots - Paul Bedford at :Paul Bedford <Paul.Bedford@islecorp.com> He has been real receptive to player input and now is probably the time since machines are being reviewed.

Hey Larry,  Are you referring to the "slot maching type" spin poker or the "wheel bonus" poker that I love to play where if you get a natural 4oK you get to spin for a bonus?Bill

bill,
No, unfortunately not "wheel bonus" but double spin video poker and regular spin video poker. Lauberge has been slow to bring in many of the newer VP games. But, I haven't found any of the Slot Managers over there who play or know much about VP. And, they sure don't cater too much to the lower denomination players of VP but, I am not surprised since they prefer the big Tx whales.

Good to hear from a few of our fellow Tx/La gamblers! Make sure you contact your Tx State rep's since there is a slim chance the State may look at adding "legalized gambling" to the regular Texas gambling. You can't drive down some local streets in this area because of the people trying to access parking for the "eight liners", Texas Hold'em parties, bingo and even some buying State Lottery/Scratch offs. Thank G... Texas isn't corrupted by gambling and we can send those corrupted Texans and their $$$$ to La., OK, Miss, or New Mex.
