March 11, 2011 Sahara to Close: The Sahara Hotel & Casino has announced will close May 16, reports Channel 8. "We are working with our partners to assess a variety of options for the property, including a complete renovation and repositioning," said Sam Nazarian, CEO of sbe Entertainment Group, which owns and operates the property. "While no final decisions have been made at this point, the continued operation of the aging Sahara was no longer economically viable."
According to a news release, the hotel and casino will remain fully operational until the closure. The Sahara will be honoring all room reservations and players' club events until that time. We understand the property's been working with MRI on possible solutions for both customers and employees.
Not that it was my favorites in the last few years, but I hate to see one of the old-timers go off into the sunset.

Can't even remember the last time I was there. But do feel bad about another piece of STRIP history parting from our memories.

Yes sucks about the history but I passed through there on my way from the strip to downtown and man it was about 4 shady characters in there total. We couldn't even get a cab outside it was so dead. Not surprised, but still another one bites the dust.

I'm really not surprised by this news - I stayed there for a week last November and was really sorry I did. The service & attitude of everyone all around was that no one cared at all about their guests. The worst hotel stay I've ever had anywhere - and I immediately suspected that something like this was up. Such a shame, as I gambled there the year before and had a wonderful time (but didn't stay at the hotel on that trip).
